Spent around 600 dollars on a 2-year membership for myself and my wife. Only got to use about 2 months of it until COVID-19 happened. Yes, the gym is open now, but someone in our household is at high-risk for the virus so we still can't use our memberships and it will probably be that way for years. We asked for even just a partial refund and were refused.
Partial refund of half the price paid is more than fair and would still be a huge profit for them, especially considering we can't use the services.
Unfortunately the paid in full memberships are non-refundable without reasons of relocation or injury. We are more than happy to freeze your account for any length of time so that once you feel comfortable returning you have not lost any time on your membership.
Horrible customer service. They lied about my contract and told me they would charge me $100 for a cancellation fee .
Hi Amir. We offer a $100 early termination fee as a courtesy if you do not want to finish out your one year membership. We also offer free cancellations for relocation or injury.
Danny and Samantha did not state that and that was not in the contract .
I did not sign up for a year. I signed up for month to month payments .
Club fitness scams people and is very misleading. Nowhere in my initiation was I told about $100 cancellation.
I specifically asked about cancelling within my first 30 days and was told by your staff member that signed me up that I could cancel without any fee.
Club fitness is a scam and cares only about the money. Multiple others have had same issues.
Filing a Class-A lawsuit against Club Fitness . I'll see you in court.
COVID-19 still being charged for services that I cannot use.
Since COVID-19 I have been charged for the month of April and May and I have not been able to use the gym due to a mandatory shut-down by the governor of NC. I have called the gym several times and not one phone call has been returned nor have the payments been stopped. I am not able to get in touch with anyone at the company to rectify this and they have essentially gone radio silent.
I am looking for a refund for the month of April and May I would also like my membership with the gym to be cancelled. The way this situation has been handled does not make me want to spend my money with this company. I an disappointed that no statement has been made to update their customers about re-opening, a refund or anything!
Hi ***,
We have emailed our members to let them know that they will be receiving free time at the end of their membership. We also do not know when we will be able to reopen the gym as the Governor of North Carolina has not provided us that information. I will be cancelling your membership.
Thank you
Refuses to honor the contract with my Medicare Insurance plan
I was interested in joining this club and very impressed after given a tour. But when I was told that the membership was over $30 per month, I had to decline explaining that I am a senior citizen living on a fixed income and that amount was out of my budget. I was then told that the club occasionally has special offers. I asked to be included in those offers. On or around January 30, I received a text about a special offer of 6 weeks for $6. This special included a free training session if you attended twice a week. Since at the time I was in negotiations for a teaching contract to start soon with the date yet to be determined, I didn't sign up for the free training session. At that time I gave my credit card for the withdrawal of the $6 (which was taken out of my account). On January 31, I received another text offering me "Full access 12 month membership for only $199! No additional fees. Reply to join" When I went to work out on February 1, I spoke with the young man who had signed me up for the 6 weeks and said that even though there was a good chance that I would be gone for several weeks during that contract---the price was within my budget. He told me that I would have to wait until my current 6 week contract ran out before I signed up for a new one. On March 1 my teaching contract in California was finalized so I contacted the club to terminate the remainder of the 6 weeks. I received a reply that I was unable to cancel because I didn't complete the contract unless I could provide proof of my new, out of state address. I explained that I hadn't moved permanently but was on a teaching contract out of state. The response was an attachment of a contract I never saw or was told about but I supposedly signed when I signed what I thought was for the $6 credit card withdrawal. My teaching contract ended early because of the Corona virus. When I returned from California, I noticed that $30+ was withdrawn from my credit card. I immediately called the club, was told it was withdrawn per the "contract" I had signed. I again reminded him of our many previous conversations about my being unable to afford $30+/month We worked out an arrangement whereby I would be given a new contract reflecting the offer mailed to me on Jan 31st and that the money taken out of my card would be credited to the new agreement. Everyone was happy (I thought). I said as soon as my quarantine was over, I would be in to sign a written contract that we verbally agreed to. But when I got to the Club, there was a note on the door that the gym was closed until further notice. Not knowing when or if they would reopen, I contacted my credit card company with all my documentation, and the charge was reversed. I soon got an e-bill from their billing department and I explained the situation. When my new enrollment for my Medicare Plan came in the mail and I found out that Club Fitness is included free with my membership (wouldn't you think they would have told me that themselves?). I was pleasantly surprised so I joined the Club through my Health Insurance. I was enrolled, given an ID number and went to the gym only to be told that they could not honor the contract with my health insurer because I am already a member and would have to honor that contract first. The 6 week membership I cancelled in 4 weeks? The Insurance company called the Club and was told that they would only honor the Medicare contract if I were willing to pay a large sum to cancel the "current" contract. Since I never got a bill, I wasn't sure what they were talking about. I am not computer literate (don't even own one). But I just checked my spam and saw a couple of bills for a service neither I nor anyone else was able to use. I guess I am writing this to make other senior citizens aware of the business practices of this company
Remove the balance of the "amount owed" for an unavailable service due to the business being closed and send me confirmation that it was done.
Hello. The contract was signed by you and emailed after joining for review. We also sent you the contract in March after you declined to submit proof of relocation for the free cancellation option. This contract prompted you to initial for monthly dues and an annual fee. These were displayed where you signed. I am more than happy to remove past due monthly payments for while we were closed, however that does not cancel the contract.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I just found the contract that was emailed to me in my Spam. I don't have the ability to read it with my device. However,I do have a text from Club Fitness dated Jan. 31 stating "Welcome to Club Fitness of Daytona.***!We'll Occasionally text you info about your membership." So why would I be looking for anything in my email?Even before Jan 31 st I was very clear at the time that I could not afford $30+ per month and reiterated that every time I went in. Additionally, I was told that what I was initialing on a device that I couldn't read without my glasses, that I would be signing up for 6 weeks for 6 dollars to be taken out of my credit card. I would not have signed up for anything else on January 31 because I was in the middle of negotiations for an upcoming out of state teaching contract where the dates were not yet finalized. I never once said I was relocating, Just that I would temporarily out of state. Additionally, I find it offensive that knowing I was a senior on Medicare, I was never asked or informed about possibilities of my health insurance covering my membership as every other gym I have belonged to. Why would anyone in their right mind pay for a membership that is free? This whole thing appears to be a "Bait and Switch" scam for seniors.
Your desired resolution was: "Remove the balance of the "amount owed" for an unavailable service due to the business being closed and send me confirmation that it was done." We have done this. You no longer have a balance from when we were closed.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
When I wrote my original desired resolution I should have added that I wanted them to honor the contract that they have with my Health Insurer. Today I received an ebill (this time to my correct email so I found it) for $32.10. Of course they eliminated the 2 months they weren't open-they had to do that for everyone. I am told by my Health Insurer that Club Fitness has a contract with them and that they legally have to honor that. I am not a person who likes a lot of drama and I would like to belong to a gym where I can walk. Even though I should be able to go to Club Fitness under my Health Insurance, I would be willing to rejoin with the arrangement I made before I found out about my insurance paying for the membership and a few days before the gym closed. That deal was for the offer of "Full access 12 month membership for only $199! No additional fees" I have the original text which is why I know the exact language. Since I do not have the ability to download or print documents, I would like a paper contract that I can review before I sign. Additionally, I would like to be able to sign up under my Health Insurance when that contract is up on June 1, 2021.
I will make note that if you join in the next week you can join for the 199 + tax. This is a special that was open for a limited time. We do not always have the same gym packages available depending on what special we are running. IF we still have a contract with your insurance after that one year paid in full membership, then you can join with that in June 2021. However, this does not promise that we will continue to work with that insurance company in the future.
gym closed due to covid-19, and I contacted them 2 weeks ago to place account on hold or suspend to no avail
gym is currently closed due to the covid-19 lockdown, and I am currently in limbo with my job barely making ends meet. I let them know about my situation weeks ago, as soon as all this started happening, no response until after they drafted my account. horrible business practice during this time of actual need.
I want my account suspended and membership fees for the month of April refunded.
This issue was handled on 4/15 with *** via a phone conversation and email confirmation.
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Very happy with how the business handled complaint
Club Fitness has been closed for over a month but they keep charging my credit card. It goes without saying that this is unacceptable.
I have been charged for two months now when I cannot even use the gym's facilities. Instead of suspending payments until they reopen, they are continuously charging me while refusing to provide the service I'm paying for.
I want my money refunded and my membership canceled. I refuse to allow my money to line the pockets of thieves.
Hello,
We have refunded you the last two payments. March was billed on the 10th, the gym was not shut down until weeks after that. We had no way of knowing that was going to happen. We have been processing refunds, freezes, and crediting time for members during this time. You should see the refund in the next few days. You will not be billed further while we are closed. However, your signed one year contract with the gym still stands.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Contract was breached. Whether they provide refunds or not, they still charged us all while Club Fitness was closed and tried to get away with it. If they do not cancel my membership, I will continue to take action to receive refunds for every month moving forward.
We will cancel the account.
I was sold a four month contract verbally for Personal training. The contract is up and reaccuring charges of $70 keep being charged.
April 1st I visted Club Fitness to inquire about a gym membership. I was approached by a trainer named chuck a physical trainer at the gym. I had recently stopped smoking and wanted to try exercising to keep weight off. We worked out that day and he told me to come in April 2 to do paperwork. On April 2 2019 I was sold for physical training for four months. When you sign this contract you can't see what your signing because the computer faces the trainer and all you have is a signature pad. He went over that it was a standard four month contract and told me I was signing so they couldn't charge me additional charges. I was never told there is a box he couldve checked that would've stopped the reoccurring charges when the four month contract was up. I was never told he was emailing me a copy that would end up in a spam folder. He said he needed my email for events that were happening and announcements from the gym! I was never told I had three days to cancel this contract. We worked out through the contract all until July 14th.At the last session I said to him our my membership is ending and I wouldnt be renewing because school was starting again and I didnt have time.He said he would have to check the date for our last session. After this He wouldn't return calls or text messages. He didn't even work at the gym anymore come to find out! I've since been charged for August and September for training with a trainer that doesn't even work there anymore. I went in Sept 5th to try and find out why they were still charging my card. I talked to the new Training director Tim. He tried to sell me more training and said he was calling cooperate and he would call me back. He didnt. I went in the next day Sept 6th and talked to Tim again where he told me I had to email the training company Avail fitness but said he had no time to provide the addresses and he would call me he did not. I called later that evening on Sept 6th and talked to Stewart he finally looked at my contract told me they had emailed me a copy which was news to me. Said he was sorry this happened to me and he could give me some extra sessions. I don't want extra sessions I want my money back from August and September. He tells me that I need to come in and talk to Samantha on Monday Sept.9th. Still wouldn't give me the email addresses. Sept.9th I go and talk to Samantha she said she has no control over Physical training and would email the owner of the company. I tell her I also want out of my year long gym membership because this experience has been so awful I don't want to go in there ever again. She told me it was impossible to cancel the gym membership but she did cancel the Physical training finally because even though my contract was expired and the trainer no longer works there they are still billing me. I want a refund for two month of physical training $140 and I want my gym membership cancelled. How do these gyms get away with dishonest selling? How can you sign a four month contract and still be billed? I never received a physical copy of my contract or was told they wouldn't be checking a tiny box that stop reaccuring charges.
I want two moths of physical training refunded. $140 I want out of the Planet Fitness Membership

Hi Michelle. Once again, I am sorry for the misunderstanding when it comes to the contract terms. Like I mentioned, many training clients continue training well beyond their contracted payments on a month to month basis. The contract is emailed after signing which goes over the notice of cancellation after the contracted term has been fulfilled. Regardless, since it has been difficult for you to get in contact with the PT manager and you were unable to utilize your sessions-- we have refunded you and cancelled your membership. I apologize again for your poor experience with the club.
I would like this business to contact me regarding these billing issues that they have charged me for when their facility has not been used.
I am filing this complaint today because I have never been so dissatisfied with a company and their practices. When I purchased my membership last year in January at a total of $26.75 a month I was super excited about joining this gym. Even though their price was higher then most fitness clubs I chose this one because it was close to my job and my son's daycare being a single mom I usually don't get to do things like this for myself but I decided to splurge and treat myself with this gym membership. now I can say it was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. The first couple months the tanning beds were not working and therefore I was paying for services that weren't available to me. Because I'm a single mom I then had to get a second job and I basically had no time to get to the gym. I called up there and spoke to them about canceling and they told me my membership was not up until January, at the time the girl did not mention to me that I would have to call back up there and cancel my membership that was already over in January. In March of this year I noticed I had been charged for 3 months membership in a $49 annual fee. I have called this business multiple times I have spoke to the manager Sam who has informed me that Stewart the general manager would be calling me back I have yet to receive any correspondence from this place of business. When I spoke to the manager she said it would have been my responsibility to come up there and to cancel my membership because they don't take verbal cancellation over the phone. She then stated it was in my contract which I signed over a year ago. I asked the young lady to please have the general manager call me back as I know they can see through the key fobs when I have entered the gym I have not use their facilities and over 9 maybe 10 months. The young lady also told me I was now in a month-to-month membership because I had not came up to cancel but I still not sure how I have an annual fee on a monthly membership. How do you have an annual fee for something that's not an annual agreement? I do not have the answers to these questions that I have for this business as no one has given me a call back even though I have repeatedly called them. When I do call I am told the manager is not there he will call me back and it has been over a week now. I am a single mother that works two jobs to support my children I just want my money rightfully back as I have not use your facilities and your facilities I'm from the lack of response I feel as if you guys know you're wrong for this. I am usually very reluctant to give a business my car to make an automatic withdrawal and your business is the exact reason why. I'm writing this complaint today because I just want this resolved and I would like my hard-earned money back as you guys know I have not use your facilities and I should not have to pay an annual fee for something I have not used.
I would be completely satisfied if this company would give me my rightfully owed money back as I have not use your facilities and was told I could not cancel over the phone verbally but when I file this complaint my membership was canceled over the phone verbally.

Hello,
When I look at this member's account it shows she disputed the charge with the bank and received the annual fee from April 1, 2019 back. The membership was also cancelled during my last conversation with her on 4/3 which was the first time she had reached out to the gym since April of 2018 while she was still in a contract.
I'm not sure how she wants this resolved if she got the money back from the bank dispute and the membership is cancelled? We had a signed contract on file stating the cancellation procedures as well.
Thanks for you help,
Samantha ***

They are billing me for a service I never received. It is not listed on my contract.
I was billed for a fitness test. I never received one. The girl at the payment company tried to say it was a maintenance fee. She can change the discription and bill me more. She said this because this fee is not on the contract. That gym confirmed that maintenance fees are billed in October and not this amount. This payment company numerous times took money out of my account even after I sent them something in writing not to. I have fulfilled my contract and do not want to pay for a service that was never provided.
Refund charge and late fee.
This member agreed to an enhancement fee of 39.00 She was only charged 26.95 for it and has refused to pay it. Her contract is over August 1st 2018 and will not be charged any additional funds after that time. She is however responsible for any charges prior to Aug 1st.
Thank you

This has been resolved
Cybercivilrights.org explained to me on 4.2.2018 that it is against NC law for the owner to do any nonconsenual filming, or to allow the members through its contract where I have 1. not authorized myself to be filmed via camera in the gym, and 2 be uploaded into the internet, nonconsenually.
Please view Club Fitness Charlotte Instagram channel for many examples.
Please see as only 2 more examples:
Sterling West (Ezra)@sterlo_sofit
Boris C, or Boris W who both film nearly every night.
Boris W has an Instagram and YouTube channel with many, many videos.
The gym is allowing all of the other people in its gym to film and to upload patrons who do not want to be filmed nor who have signed off on being consensually uploaded into the internet in their contract, or into (world wide web) sites.
Saturday March 31,2018 again I walked into the gym and there is a man and his girlfriend with a large tripod in the center of the gym and I had to go ask "Brian" for the names of the people because I wanted to know where maybe I am being publicly posted into the internet, without consent.First without Brian present I asked them before not to film me and then I went to the counter to ask for their names.
I discussed this with Rob Z on April 02, 2018.
Brian told me he can't do anything and asked them not to film me in their background only after having a heated discussion with the 2 individuals present, and I still did not get provided the names so I cannot prove 100% that I am not in their channel, or being broadcasted all over the internet.
I did not sign a contract permitting myself to be filmed and possibly without my knowledge uploaded into the internet every time I walk into a gym.
Please have the gym post this on its 1. door, 2. inside the gym, 3 mass email it to its member's email addresses, 3. put it on its FaceBook/Instagram page, and 4. have it stated in their contract that this is the law in North Carolina and that it is punishable by law to film without consent of someone and to upload the unauthorized/non-consented images of any other patrons into the internet. cybercivilrights.org tel:(844-878-2274) click on -Victim Resources -Revenge Porn Laws -North Carolina *This was explained to me that this applies to all nonconsenual images taken of me and others without written consent that are posted into the internet by Bianca again on 4.5.2018 at 5:40pm Eastern S.Time. Disclosure of private images, class H felony (Class 1 misdemeanor if under age 18); General Statutes Section 14-190.5A. -- Moreover, to be clear I unfortunately started recognizing that the gym members were filming in the bathroom and in the gym, and I in the last 30-40 days have been complaining about this right after I noticed it to Rob Zito. _______________________________ If the gym stops the filming and uploading of its gym environment so all patrons, and myself can be sure that they are not being uploaded into the internet then I would happily like to remain a member. If not, I want Rob Zito to notify me in person that I can finish out my current month with 2 weeks' notice and give me the rest of my months back in cash as I paid, that I did not use yet, or check. I paid 438.88 in cash and I started the membership on 11.16.2017. ***My goal is to remain a member, but that I neither be filmed in videos of other patrons, nor be posted by other members into the internet.*** I really do sincerely hope that this can be resolved for me and others to be able to (know) that we are not being filmed and uploaded without authorization and consent into the internet. Sincerely
We have resolved this matter as the customer requested by cancelling his membership and refunding him the remaining time he had paid for. The refund we issued totaled $316.97. This resolution is what the member requested.
When I signed up for the gym Stuart told me that I can cancel for $100. But they refuse to let me cancel and I keep receiving harassing phone calls.
When I first signed up for the gym I made it very clear that I just moved from Miami to Daytona where I was working less than 20 hours a week doing home health aide where I would do hourly visits to several clients home. I had more than enough time to exercise and use the gym. I told the manager that I was looking for a full time job and he let me know that I can cancel my membership for $100. I even had my kids coming to the gym with me before my full time job. I have 4 children a 4 yrs old a 3 yrs old and my twins are 1 yrs old. I'm a single parent and I have no family here all my family are over 250 miles away. When I just started my new job training was 7AM to 3:30PM I was still able to get off work go home really quickly make my kids dinner , pick them up from daycare feed them and still make it to the gym in time for the total body classes. After two months of training my schedule changed where I started working from 9AM to 5:30PM by the time I got off work I headed straight to my kids daycare to pick them up by 6PM. In the beginning I was going straight to the gym but the total body classes were over by the time I made it to the gym leaving from Ormond to South Daytona. I explained to the manager that I was missing all the classes plus since my schedule changed permanently it was hard to come to the gym so late because when I get my kids from school at 6PM they are crying because they are hungry keep in mind all 4 of my kids are under 4 years old. My twins can't feed themselves I have to do it not to mention I have to cook dinner. I explained to Stewart that if my kids could feed themselves I would just buy them some fast food from drive thru so that way they can feed themselves while I'm driving to the gym. He assured me that I can pay $100 cancellation fee. I keep receiving harassing phone calls everyday serval times a day from peakserve as well as email. They don't want to accept my $100 to cancel. I don't know what to do. I just want to pay my $100 to cancel like Stewart said and for them to stop harassing me by calling me every single day. They email and text messages me every other day and it gets frustrating sometimes. Stewart was supposed to reach out to be but he never did.
I want to pay my $100 to cancel and to stop receiving calls every day
Member was offered the $100 buyout when they signed up. However, this would only have cancelled her gym membership not her personal training that she also signed up for. When she attempted to pay the $100 to cancel she had already accumulated a past due balance of over $100 on the membership. She was told that she would have to pay the past due as well as the $100 cancellation fee. She was asked several times to come in and speak with our general manager which she has yet to do.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This is not true at all I had no past due balance when I wanted to cancel. I made all my payments using my credit card. When I advised that I wanted to cancel due to my schedule changes not fitting into the gym schedule. I made several attempts to contact club fitness to speak to Stewart he is never available all I keep getting is other people. I was not told that I couldn't cancel my membership. I was told that when I'm ready to cancel the fee is $100. So please explain to me why when I finally decided that I'm ready to cancel after months of payments coming out of my account for services that I'm not using then the gym wants to tell me "You cancel your memebership by the way you cannot cancel personal fitness" This was never disclosed to me when I signed up. I feel betrayed and taken advantage of. If your signing someone up for a gym membership and you give them a free one day trial for personal training and you convinced someone to signed up for personal training as well, if the customer asks about cancellation why didn't you say yes you can cancel your gym membership for $100 however you cannot cancel personal training. That just doesn't make sense to me? I was told that if I want to cancel it's $100, stop trying to rip me off. I want an appointment with Stewart to cancel my membership for $100 because that was what was told to me. I have my bank statement I was never past due when I wanted to cancel. The gym is great with their child care services and also their trainer Mike or Ike the one from the military is great. I see him twice a month for someone like me that doesn't know anything about equipments and exercise I was really counting on the total body classes that was offered. When my schedule changed and I was missing all those classes I was making it to the gym to late I missed everything. They assured me that I can cancel so I want to cancel.
The consumer met with our general manager today and they came to a resolution. We have removed her past due balance, cancelled her personal training and kept her gym membership active. This was agreed upon by both parties.
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
Yes Stewart and I came to an agreement. I'm actually glad I met with him because he was the only one who truly understood the situation. The gym will work on the hours for their training classes, which I feel is good not just for me but for a lot of people. Many people work 9 to 5 so pushing the time back would a great thing to do. The gym is great awesome child care facility. Great classes. I never disliked the gym it just wasn't working well with my schedule. So I wanted to cancel for services that I was not using. I'm super excited that they made this exception for me so I can get back to the gym with my 4 babies.
