Paul H[redacted], EditorThe Cleveland Writers’ Press31501 Roberta DriveBay Village, OH 44140 ...⇄ February 8, 2017Dear Mr. H[redacted]:It would appear that we have been at cross purposes from the beginning of our acquaintance, and it is my hope that we can resolve the resulting dispute with a simple solution. No “vengefulness” was intended by my actions; however, in view of the complete lack of response to my repeated phone calls for a period of several months (and no receipt of the voicemail which you claimed to have sent), I was left with no other recourse than to contact a third party to act as arbitrator in order to retrieve my materials. When we spoke last August, you gave me to understand that, while the Cleveland Writers’ Press did not ordinarily handle poetry, you were willing to consider my work. I had no power to “insist” that you do this, and if you felt “regret” about accepting, you need not have done so. To misrepresent me as being forward and yourself as being pressured is both unfair and untrue. Because I had no idea how much of a backlog of other work you had on hand and how long it might take you to examine my writing, I did not include a SASE with the books I mailed. I shall remedy this omission immediately upon hearing that you are willing to return my materials, and at that time we can consider this matter concluded.I wish you success in your future endeavors in the publishing field.Sincerely,[redacted]

Dear Ms. [redacted];
This complaint is viewed on our part as both frivolous and somewhat vengeful. Last year Ms. [redacted]...
contacted me and requested that we consider publishing her book(s) of poetry. When I explained to her that we did not publish poetry, she insisted on sending her books anyway. Regretfully, I relented.
It is understood in the publishing industry that material submitted for consideration is not normally returned as this would require the expense of shipment be incurred with the return of such manuscripts. If Ms. [redacted] had desired her books to be returned, she should have requested so in her submission package along with including a pre-paid, self-addressed envelope -which she did not. I left a voicemail for Ms. [redacted] in August informing her that we were not interested in publishing her work and since then have received numerous voicemails from her requesting that we return her books.
We will not be returning her books at our expense and consider the matter closed.
