Review: I dropped off two chairs at Classic Upholstery to be upholstered last June. I wanted them covered in muslin and told Juan to go ahead and do the work. He wanted me to choose a muslin and sent samples to me. I chose a sample and told him to go ahead with the work. He phoned me and asked me if I wanted the same nail heads on the chairs, I said yes, he said he didn't have them, that I needed to find the hardware, he also told me the chairs would be $700 each to reupholster. I asked him if he could match the leather the chairs had been upholstered in with leather he had at his shop he said it would be very expensive and that I should look for leather in Los Angeles. I was extremely busy with work and forgot about the chairs. Juan never phoned me again but says he asked my mother to remind me a few times when he saw my mother at the farmers market. Two weeks ago Juan was at the farmers market and told my mother he threw my chairs away. She asked why he didn't call me or tell her the previous Sundays he saw her at the farmers market that he was going to throw them out. He said his storage bill was too high. I work twelve to fourteen hour days five days a week and had forgotten about the chairs but I certainly would have asked my mother or someone else to pick up the chairs if Juan had warned me that he was about to throw the them out. Now Juan says he's not sure if the chairs were thrown out but he doesn't have time to look for them. I explained the chairs were antique/from the 1940's and that I want to know where they are or if they were thrown out. He claimed he didn't have my phone number (how did he call me previously?) and could I text it to him and he'd get back to me. I asked if I could come look with my boyfriend, he said he didn't know if he would be available, to call first. He wouldn't make an appointment with me. I have no confidence that the chairs are at his shop or in storage. Juan never had me fill out paper work, we only had a verbal agreement. Help?Desired Settlement: I want what I paid (the dealer I bought them from) for the chairs. I'm sure they are worth more than that, so I think I'm being fair. If Juan would rather pay me in services, I am also willing to have something else reupholstered for the same value.
