Citarella Fish Market

November 9, 2021: I went to buy scallops at Citarella's yesterday. Bay scallops were selling for $70 a pound. Sea scallops were selling for $40 a pound. Like a jerk, I bought half a pound of sea scallops. Then, very next day, I have an appointment on 8th Avenue between 54th and 55th. There is a Westerly's Market on the northwest corner of 54th Street. I went in. Bingo: bay scallops, $14.95 a pound. I got two half-pound packages. I broiled them. They were great. CITARELLA'S IS PRICE-GOUGING. It is really unbelievable. I'm not going to shop there much anymore.

Review: During the snow storm on Jan [redacted] I called Citarella Market to see if they were opened. I was helping a a sick senior citizen who needed food and asked for that market in particular. I agreed to pick it up for her. I ran in the snow getting there at 1:14 on my iphone that is over 15 min before they said they would close and I was met at the door along with 3 other shoppers who also called and told you cannot come in we are closed. I explained I just called and they told me your open until 1:30. The man told me what they said on the phone was wrong. The store had people in it but he refused to let us in. "[redacted]" he said. I said that has nothing to do with what you just told me on the phone. With that he pulled the door closed on all of us. That is just wrong on many levels.

It was insulting and disgraceful that in a snow crisis situation a business that has such a strong loyal customer base would treat us like an intruder when we needed food in a storm.
