On December 4, 2017 I brought my patronage to the Bowen Rd Chevron to purchase $20 worth of fuel, prepaid at the counter with a $50 bill, to which I received $30 in tens as change.
Frustrated because of my morning I was distracted and drove away without actually filling up at all; while on my way to work to the country club area I realized what happened and twenty or so minutes later I immediately returned to correct the mistake.
When I approached the attendant to inform him of the mistake he behaved as though he could not understand my complaint, at which point he called for his supervisor who got on the phone and said afterwards that it was not their responsibility to honor the gas purchase or refund the money because they claimed someone must have taken the fuel.
I was informed by another gas station them that every modern gas station has computer records of everything including whether or not fuel was pumped, and also have video surveillance which can confirm that I did not pump the fuel.
After I shared this info I was told that it was not their responsibility by the attendant at Chevron who handled the money.
Lastly, my neighbor across the street also works at a gas station and informed me that apparently in most modern stations there is a safety shutoff at each pump that shuts if off if it is not used within a set timeframe.
Initial Business Response /(1000, 4, 2018/01/05) */
I am the Business Consultant/Territorial Manager for Parkland Fuel Corp (Branded Chevron Canada), and as per your request, I am writing you regarding the details of Case # XXXXXXXX.
These are events as we understand them:
This customer came into our Bowen Road location, and made a preauthorized $20.00 Cash payment for the specific fueling position where they were parked.
They then returned to their vehicle and left without pumping their fuel.
When this customer returned some time later, the attendant informed them that the transaction had been completed, and we have no means of recording to whom the fuel had be dispensed to.
It is our general stance that it is the customers responsibility to take the fuel that they purchase, as we do not have the means record the comings and goings of individual vehicles, and whether they have pumped their fuel past the point of transaction / preauthorization.
That being said, both the Retailer who runs this site and myself, have attempted to contact this customer to explain this. We have also offered this customer $20.00 worth of fuel (by way of a Chevron gift certificate), and we have been refused.
