Review: I hired Cheap Sweep to conduct an inspection of my wood stove chimney after they telling me they had the necessary equipment/tools to do so (chimney is 35'). They told me the inspection would be $75.00. The problem was a smoke creosote smell in the house even when not burning wood. Sean and his partner showed up and looked at the inlet side of the chimney (I had the pipe removed), and told me they will have to do a "level II" inspection which is using a video to inspect the liner for $250. They also looked at the exterior of my chimney and said it contained creosote that was leaking out of what was broken or faulty flue tile. They said I will more than likely need a new liner installed that would be $3000.00+ I hired another company to come inspect the chimney (they charged $50.00) and it was determined the flue is in very good shape. The "creosote" sean claimed that was present on the chimney exterior was actually just mold. After some more diagnosis it was determined the problem were the gaps in the pipe and where it entered the flue (Cheap Sweep never looked at the stove pipe). I had the gaps sealed and have not had any other problems. I contacted Cheap Sweep approximately one week later and asked for a refund for the inspection and the owner became irate and told me basically he's not going to refund my money. I’m glad I didn’t agree to the video inspection or worse to a new liner because the information he was saying/recommending was incorrect.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund, cheap sweep didn't complete what they call a "level I" inspection which should have included visually inspecting the stove pipe and the flue liner (from the roof). In addition they gave me faulty information such as the flue is cracked or not installed correctly and creosote had leaked through to the exterior bricks on the chimney.
