We at Chapin’s painting drywall fulfilled our contract with homeowner, coat of stain, coat of sealer, and coat of clear coat, that was all that was stated to be done in our contract, no other work was to be done, the homeowner agreed on the work at completion of work and I was paid 750.00, in about a week after completion of work I get a complaint, the homeowner had no complaint at the time of completionI am not responsible of the low grade stainable doors that were bought by homeowner
I am rejecting this response because:The contractor did NOT fulfill the contract, as implicit in any contract is that the quality of the work must be within industry standards. Take a look at the photos I posted and it's obvious the staining job was extremely poor workmanship. The doors as finished are simply not worthy to install in a home. And my initial complaint was days later, not a week. This is because the doors were staggered against the garage wall drying so that we could see only half of one side of each door. When the door guy came to install the doors, it became apparent how poorly they had been finished; with each door having one or more obvious blemishes. I immediately called the contractor and after some conversation he agreed to come out the following day and look at the doors. As I stated in my original complaint, he did not show, did not call, and did not answer his phone and pulled the exact same stunt a week later. If he really thought he had done a quality job, why was he afraid to come back and face his handiwork? The contractor blaming the shoddy work on poor quality doors is just a lame excuse. These are standard solid pinewood doors costing $each. My door guy has been installing doors for over years and performs all *** *** door installs and has worked with plenty of these doors; he has never seen any doors finished this poorly. A long-time professional painter also looked at the doors and was shocked that any contractor would seal doors with so many glaring stain issues, rendering them virtually unfixable. If the contractor will not issue a full refund, I will be forced to escalate the matter to Small Claims Court. My attorney advised that I could claim not only the $I paid the contractor, but also the $I spent on the doors themselves

Michael Barnett
