Sent account to collections after I have made consistent monthly payments. Never received any warning phone call or letter.
I underwent surgery in late March 2013. I received my first statement dated 5/13/2013 with the balance after the insurance payment of 206.59. I made the following payments:
06/14/13: 25.00
07/03/13: 50.00
08/19/13: 25.00
09/20/13: 25.00
10/18/13: 25.00
Total: 150.00
This should have left me with a balance of 56.59 plus some interest they charged on the unpaid balance.
On 10/26/13, I received a letter from the collection agency they use stating that Central Utah Clinic had turned my account over to them for the balance of 102.22. I never once received a warning letter or phone call from Central Utah Clinic. First, the amount they say I owe them is incorrect, so they have made an error somewhere in their accounting. Second, I feel it is extremely poor customer service to turn over any account that is making consistent monthly payments. Having worked in the medical field myself for several years, it is appalling that a medical service provider would do this.
I wrote a letter and copied my bank statements and sent them to the business office of the clinic, but the letter came back stating the address was undeliverable. I double checked the address on their website, and I had addressed it correctly according to their website. I don't understand why it came back to me.
I made a phone call to their billing department and the girl said she could not help me and transferred me to their customer service department. I was put on hold for several minutes until a man picked up and asked if he could help me. I explained I had a concern about my bill and he said to hold. I was then put to someone's voicemail box. I left a message for her to return my call, but no return call yet.
I understand that they want you to pay the balance of your account immediately, and I would have like to have done this but it was not possible. They want you to call and set up monthly payments, but really couldn't they see I was sincerely and consistently trying to pay this off? Did I really deserve to be sent to collections? I don't think so, and if this is their way of doing business, they won't get anymore of mine.
