My experience with the company are mixed as follows
1. the generator is not slow turning. The engine runs at 3600 RPM
2. I had problems with the radiator and the way it is mounted - the engine is a perkins 2 cylinder diesel which is inherently prone to vibration the first year I had to replace it several times under warranty. CMD ended up sending a retro for the radiator mounting which did not work well. I ended up mounting the radiator independently from the engine mounting brackets 4 years ago and that has worked well since. Originally the engine had overheated due to the radiator problems CMD did not seem to want to send me new wiring that had melted going to the glow plug and other wiring due to the overheating. I ended up repairing myself. The overheating conditions will more than likely reduce the engine life although we have now been using it as back up to our solar off grid house for about 7 years.
3. The belts that run the generator from the engine fell apart after about 2 years recommend replacing them with serrated Kevlar type belts.
4. The engine has been hard starting ever since we had it especially in colder weather(below 25 degrees f). I determined power was not switching to the glow plugs. Troubleshooting the system I found that CMD had installed a 24v relay in a 12 v system which doesn't work. I replaced the relay with a 12 v 4 pin relay and now it operates and is not hard starting tested at 15 degrees.
summary
For the cost this unit isn't too bad but some of the issues plaguing the unit are probably still there therefore I recommend this unit only if you are mechanically inclined and have experience with modifying the unit as described above.
