RE:   Complaint on Billing Issues by patient

In response to the letter of complaint submitted by the patient regarding the billing issues for an L & I claim at our office I would like to bring to  your attention the following course of events.  Back on April...

24, 2014 a needle stick incident happened at our office which involved the and one of our employees.  As per the protocol for any needle stick incident both parties involved had to get a series of lab tests done.  The patient was requested to get the labs done at [redacted] hospital by one of our providers and that the claim would be covered by our L & I.  The claim for this incident was initially incorrectly billed tot he patient's insurance by the lab at [redacted] hospital.
We received an email from the patient on June 23, 2014 that she received an invoice from the lab and that it was erroneously billed to her instead of our office.  I had responded to the patient on June 27, 2014 that I would be contacting the lab to have them bill the claim to our practice.  I contacted the lab on June 30, 2014 and gave them the required information to bill this claim under our L & I account.  I was a bit surprised myself that the patient was still receiving statements.
I immediately contacted the lab on the same day about this and spent over 30 minutes trying to get the statement transferred over to our account stating that this balance should be billed to our office.  I was asked to contact [redacted] hospital directly as they were the ones that billed the claim.  I contacted reimbursement specialist at [redacted] hospital who I usually reach out to regarding billing issues and he replied stating that he was unable to help us with the issue.  Please see the email thread below were I had clearly stated that the doctor's office will be paying the balance on this bill.  I have removed the names of people in order to protect their privacy.
