On November 19th, 2019 I contracted this company's services to transport an authentic designer marble top table from Scotts Valley, CA to Brooklyn, NY. While the service was estimated to be completed on December 10th, 2019 and it was not, during this entire process they were unresponsive/unclear on providing me with a date of delivery (even as to when the table would be picked up in Scotts Valley). I was understanding/patient given the holiday season. On January 4th I reached out to get a status of delivery and was told that Charles (owner) had just arrived from CA and would deliver the following week. Finally on January 15th, 2020 at 7:32pm EST, Charles arrived to Brooklyn, NY in a delivery truck with a trailer attached. As Charles stepped out of his truck he immediately handed over a piece of paper for me to sign receipt of delivery of table. He so aggressively did that, that it was a red flag for me and I luckily asked to see the table before signing. As Charles opened the trailer and lifted the blanket off the table it was revealed that the table we paid for them to deliver was destroyed, cracked in 3 piece by the shippers reckless acts, tying it by a sole rope from the base of the table to the trailer (driven this way on a highway). I did not touch/move the table but I was able to get a few pictures before Charles nervously closed the trailer on us, ran to his truck, and told us he could not discuss as he needed to make some phone calls and drove away. I registered various pictures of the condition the table arrived in & how it was poorly secured and not properly protected/covered. Unfortunately, they continue to be unresponsive to my request of full reimbursement of costs incurred for the table. They drove off with my table and 1 month later the item remains in their possession, they don't respond to any communication that has been sent to them asking about our table so I am assuming they stole my table.
Product_Or_Service: Eero Saarinen 47" carrara marble top tulip ta
Refund Requesting full refund for the item this company stole - $1,040USD. This item is a fine authentic Eero Saarinen 47" carrara marble top tulip table. When arrived in the trailer the marble was shattered due to the reckless way the table was put into the trailer for transportation. Have not heard from them since the owner drove off with my table about how we can resolve this issue.
This complaint was sent to my personal e-mail address and was not found until today.
*** knows the e-mail address to reach either of us and that this is my personal e-mail that I offered to her
when she booked this trip, not for disputes.
This was a courtesy only and she knows the e-mail to reach me for business.
She has sent me e-mails and also an e-mail from an Attorney demanding payment for more than the value of the table.
She has reversed the charges thru *** regarding the shipping, I have sent her a letter of demand, return receipt requested and will be following up with filing in small claims for Theft of service.
I have attached a copy of the demand letter, I am awaiting the receipt from the post office.
*** refused the table at the delivery. I have e-mails from her that she has refused the shipment.
She agreed to have the table fixed, then reneged. She has tried to get me to buy her a brand new table from the knoll company.
We have the table that was refused. she has reversed the charges for the shipping and has refused to mitigate the damage to the table by accepting a repair.
She was told that we carry basic insurance only and was outlined what that entailed, that is why I also have an e-mail I sent to her and a text asking her "did you take out insurance"?
I have the table she refused to take, and am owed storage fees and shipping charges.
No-one has stolen the table, not once has she come forward and asked for it back, she owes for storage now as well.
She refused it from the delivery point.
#1 - I was not present when the table was delivered- Charles works alone. she indicated that "they"delivered the table.
She uses the term "they " quite a bit, I am never present at the deliveries I am in Florida.
she was to arrive with help to unload the table and bring it into her Brooklyn apartment, she was with one other person only, she was "well informed" that the driver will not leave his vehicle and cannot double park and that delivery is curb side only.
#2 - Nov 9 - I have the text message - *** was given the option to take out additional insurance and was given the company's name to contact.
#3 - The table was made in 2010 , it is not the date she is saying, she bought the table from an auction house in California, from a photograph. I researched and spoke with the company that made it - Knoll- and have the e-mail from the knoll company themselves.
#4 - December 19 - January 6 she said she would be away in Brazil. Table was picked up Dec 21,2019 attempted refused delivery January 15,
2020.
Not at any point has she asked for the table back, she refused it. But I will be filing for Theft of service and storage fees.
In a seperate e-mail I will compile the e-mails sent to me and my replies.
Regards
Sandra
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
-Most of the statements made by business owner are not valid. My main priority is that this does not happen to anymore of their clients. It seems like this is a recurring theme, please see yelp reviews ***
-I was not aware that Sandra has two email addresses. All communication with her has been through one email address - the one provided.
-Certified letter and email from lawyer demanding payment include all costs associated with the damaged table, $1,622.50 ($1,140 for table and $522.50 for shipping fees). As stated in the business' response we were successful in disputing the shipping fee on *** and won the case. The requested amount on this claim covers the cost of ONLY the table they damaged $1,140.00 and still remains in their possession.
-We were not given the option to keep or refuse delivery at the time of delivery. As I have previously stated, Charles nervously and quickly closed the trailer, hopped in his truck, and drove away with our damaged table.
-The dining table will entirely lose its value if the marble that has been cracked into three pieces by the reckless packaging of the shipping company is "fixed". Per a few industry professionals marble can never be "fixed" and the table has lost the entirety of its value. We made it very clear that we just wanted to be reimbursed for the table.
-I was never provided any third-party insurance option. Per business owner, they stated that their insurance covered the item entirely if damaged en route to delivery destination.
-I do not owe them a single dollar. I paid all invoices on time. Fortunately, I won the dispute I opened against this charge for services paid for that were in fact not provided. The table remains in their possession and four months and a half later, I have not been returned my money for their damage.
