This item was purchased from our shop via Craigslist in May of 2015. The item was paid for via credit card over the phone by the customer. As always when we ship goods from our shop, there is insurance provided. After the item arrived to the buyer he addressed some issues that weren't present when...
the item was shipped. He asked if we would refund the item or if we wanted to pay for the repair. We opted to pay for the repair of the item so he could keep it. A few weeks later we received an estimate for repairs that included both (possible) labor and (possible) parts. After contacting the repair shop to talk with them ourselves about the possible repairs and cost, I was assured that total cost would most likely come in at the low end of the estimate. After more email correspondence between the customer and I, we decided to give him a refund for repairs based on the estimate that was provided by himself and the repair shop. The refund amount we came up with was based on the high end of labor and the low end of parts for a total of $300, which was agreed upon by both parties. The refund was issued back to his credit card and both parties seemed satisfied, and we amicably parted ways.It wasn't until the end of August that we began receiving emails on the matter again. I wasn't able to respond to the first email due to a heavy work load. The customer's second email and emails to follow were considerably less cordial and bordered between aggressive and rude.We are a pawn shop and usually sell items "as-is" with no cash refunds. In this unique situation, we provided the customer with a refund amount of more than a third of the final sales price (as agreed upon by ourselves and the customer).Based on the amount of the amount already refunded and the amount of time that has passed since the agreed upon refund amount, we feel that we have held up our end of this transaction.
Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:While it's true that [redacted] told both Bryan and I that they anticipated the repairs would come in at the low end of their estimate, at no point did I agree to pay to have the amplifier repaired. It was advertised and sold as being in good working order. I have attached the Craigslist ad where it was advertised as having been tested and in working order. I have also attached the e-mail from Bryan where he stated "I stand behind it fully!", the estimate, and the final bill.I asked Capital Pawn to pay for the repairs or provide a refund. Bryan offered to refund $300 towards the repairs. I accepted that and asked "What if the repairs are more than $300" and Bryan said "We can discuss that if it happens" (or words to that effect).I think we both assumed that the repairs would be at the low end of the estimate, however at no point did I agree to pay any overage. Unfortunately, the amp had extensive problems, which resulted in the long delay in completing the repair. [redacted] had to contact [redacted] (the manufacturer of the amplifier) a number of times when fixes they suggested did not bring the amp up to specifications. They also had to order parts more than once and wait for those to arrive. [redacted] did not exceed their estimate and Bryan was provided with a copy of the estimate. While neither of us were expecting the repair to be more than $300, I was placed in the position of either paying the difference between the amount Capital Pawn had refunded to me and what the actual repair cost was or forfeiting both the amplifier and the money I had paid to Capital Pawn.I think a reasonable person would agree that when you purchase something advertised as being in good working condition you should not be forced to pay to repair it.
