Bristol's Garage Reviews (2)

This is my local garage and I love doing business with them. The owner is always nice and awesome to talk to. I would recommend anyone to go there and have their vehicle worked on.

Review: I took my vehicle to Bristol's in November. My transmission had went out and I needed repair work on it. I picked it up in December, and drove it FIVE miles and it broke down again. They came and got it and had it another two weeks saying that it was fixed. It was not. The transmission was still messed up and to add to it, he left and admitted that he forgot to plug my oxygen sensor back up, leaving it hanging inside my motor. He forgot to put my intake back on. I took it back three days later because of vibrating in the motor, wouldn't go into four wheel drive, and it would not go up hills. He gave it back four days later. He told me to pick it up that night and told me he had put the key under the mat. I waited two hours for him to get there because he forgot to put the key in. Then we get it back and the jeep will not drive over FORTY miles an hour, and still will not go into four-low drive.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to actually fix the vehicle or if they cannot perform the job at least refund what I paid them so I can take it to another garage that can finish it.

Response:

My name is [redacted] I am the son of Michael [redacted] and the manager of the shop where the work was done on the Jeep Liberty that the complaint has been filed on.

We recieved jeep needing a transmission and transfer case. I got a used tranmission and transfercase from [redacted]'s used parts in * Va on 12/18/13. I installed those parts the next day and test drove the vehicle and everything worked fine. They picked it up the next day and it broke down about 10 miles from our shop I went and checked it out and it had the same problem that it had when it came to my shop. I had it towed back to my shop that day and determined that the vehicle had two different sized tires. The front tires were taller than the rear tires. I did not realize this before. On a 4wd vehicle that will cause transmission troubles. We then ordered another transmission for the jeep they did not have one in stock so it took a couple of weeks to get it.

I installed that transmission on the day I recieved it which was 1/7/14. I charged them $145.00 for the shipping of the transmission. I did not charge them any extra labor for this work. I also supplied two tires free of charge to make the set match so we would not have this problem again.

they picked it up and everything was fine.

They brought it back a week or so later complaining of a leak on the pan of the transmission and that is was not running right. I replaced the pan gasket filter and new fluid free of charge and done a diagnostic test on the computer determining that the jeep had some issues with a misfire. The check engine light was on when the jeep came to us the first time. I told them what this problem was and that I would leave the keys in it for them to pick it up that evening. I recieved a call that I had forgot to do that so I left from my house as soon as I got the call and got their keys for them and explained to them what the problem was and that I woulsd be happy to fix these issues for them but they would have to pay for this work as it did not have anything to do with the transmission or any of the work that I had done. Again they left and evrything was fine.

Then about a two weeks later I recieved a phone call from a man claiming to be Ariels husband threatening me and useing very foul language saying that I stilled had'nt fixed their [redacted]ing jeep. I told him to bring it to me and I would look at for him. He came and showed me the problems that he was having and I showed him that it had and engine code in the computer and that was not covered with the transmission work that I had done. It also had a bad driveshaft in the front and I showed him that also. I asked him if there was anything that I could do to help him and he said that he would probably go ahead and get me to fix these problems for him. I never heard back from him about these problems.

We have done nothing but try to help them out on this jeep. I hope that this explains everything you need to know. Oh one other thing I never had the intake off of this vehicle so I have no idea where that statement came from about leaving it off. I hope this helps.

Thank you. If you have any other questions I can be reached at ###-###-#### Monday through Friday from 8am til 5pm and from 8am til 12pm Saturdays.

Response:

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

P.s - I took the jeep to a different shop and the work that bristols garage did on the jeep was not right. In fact I have to not only replace the transmission that Bristols put in, but the owner of the shop that I took my vehicle to FIX the problem has offered to go to court with me since it has been four months and my jeep still doesn't work because of the job that Bristols did.
