I went to get my hair done in *** twists on Saturday, August 4th. Upon arrival, there was one "stylist" in the salon that proceeded to ask me what style I wanted. After I told her, she asked me several times if I wanted to do a different style because it would not take as long and would be easier for her. I said no because I booked the appointment for that style and that was what I came to the salon to get done. After the *** she stated that she could do it and began the process. After a few minutes, I told her that she was twisting my hair too tightly and that it was causing me pain. She said she would do it looser and continued doing it tightly. I told her that it was too tight several times and after ignoring some of my complaints she stated that the pain was due to my hair being "natural" and that the pain would subside shortly after the process, which was also reiterated by the shop owner when I expressed my complaints. After the process, my scalp was very tender and hurt I mentioned this to the shop owner and she also stated that it was normal and would subside after she examined the job done by the "stylist" that did my hair. The shop owner, Fatou said that in the case that it was still relatively painful after two days I should come back and she would re-do parts of it. Although, I was still frustrated I trusted her word as a professional, paid and left the salon. A few hours later, the pain escalated and became unbearably intense. It triggered a migraine headache and my scalp was consistently throbbing with pain. Upon further inspection, there was redness and inflammation throughout my head. I tried taking pain medication (***) in separate doses and to no avail the pain did not subside, as they reassured me it would. After trying to bear it for as long as I could and suffering in the process, I was forced to remove the style, which took me all night and caused additional pain. As I took out the twists I lost clumps of hair that were caused by the tension and tightness of the style. The following morning I called the salon and I explained everything that happened to the owner Fatou. She told me that I was lucky she was even talking to me about my issue and that it was my fault. She defended the stylist that did my hair by saying that she has never gotten a complaint before and that "I wasted her time because I should have left so the stylist could have done someone else's hair instead of mine". She was incredibly rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. She did not apologize or voice any concern or sympathy in regards to my situation. When I asked for a refund she skirted around giving me a direct answer and proceeded to tell me that I could come to her salon to further "discuss the situation" with the stylist. She told me to come on that Monday, August 6th because she would be there all day along with the stylist that did my hair. When I got to the salon she was not there, there was one employee that I asked to call her. She called her and told me that she would be coming. She handed me the phone and the owner Fatou, asked me why I did not come earlier after she previously said that I could come any time on that day. She then said she would be on her way. At the same time, there was a woman with a complaint on how her hair was poorly done, although my situation was more drastic that goes to show that I am not the only person who has had a complaint about this business. I waited an hour and Fatou did not show up. The stylist that did my hair came and asked me what was wrong, after I explained what she did and that I wanted a full refund she got mad and told me that I could only get a half of the money that I paid, which does not even fully account for the pain that I endured, apart from the monetary cost. She gave me half of the money and denied giving me the rest. After she refused I had no choice but to leave, so I left. Fatou's Braiding Salon is the most unprofessional business I have encountered and there needs to be regulatory action instilled on this business. I am deserving of a full refund at the least.
