Contractor hired when our 60 yr. old oak tree fell on the entire southwest side of our home, has lied and denied the inadequate repairs done on our home. No City inspection was performed, contractor lied and said report was in his office, attic was enclosed without inspection. Roof deck popped up about 2 inches from house THREE times. THREE attempts made to reattach. Still popped up. The roof slopes to the left. there is a large dip in roof and turned up shingles from old to new construction, porch columns uneven as is the carport, brick wall has 2 cracks from window to floor, carport floor has ever growing crack. After 6 calls to the City of Shreveport, officials and inspectors found numerous problems, such as 2 reused damaged support beams and other framing that was unsupported. Contractor blamed all problems on the land settling. Said in court documents he didn't owe us anything even after City Inspection Supervisors report.
Small Claims court was yesterday, we had an arbitrator and a years worth of documentation and 2 estimates from companies that can come in after a reconstruction problems and a report from the City. The estimates were $4975. and $6500.
Before making a judgement and after asking the contractor how much it would cost if another company did the repairs, contractor said $1200. Arbitrator awarded $1000. on a $5000. renovation. Contractor had no documents that substantiate his position.
Arbitrator stated initially that he didn't have any experience with construction claims.
We are seniors with no recourse. We are left with a home that we cannot repair. This is our story.
