On January 17, a customer put a handbag in "layaway". We do layaway as an accommodation for anyone who wishes. Our normal deposit is 1/3 of purchase price. The item was $108.00. $36.00 is 1/3. My employee took $30.00 because the customer was coming in with more deposit within one...

week. 
On 2-5-14 my employee left a voice mail explaining it was a "reminder". 
Customer called back and began yelling at me (I am the owner) that she had 30 days from purchase. I explained it was a reminder because she stated to remind her if she didn't return in a week. She continued yelling at me! I could not get her to stop yelling. Nothing I said was getting across. 
 
I didn't ask or expect to see her on 204014. I only was trying to let her know we were reminding her of her layaway. She continued yelling at me. 
She called one of my employees a racist. She said she would report me to Channel 8 Fox. She kept on screaming. My expectation was to have a conversation of "just a reminder". It escalated immediately to a screaming level. 
My policy on layaway is 30 days. No refunds of deposits. 
Somehow, this just became a HUGE misunderstanding. In over 50 years of being a retail store, I have never experienced anything like this. 
I would apologize, I am not sure why. I have never had anyone misunderstand me in such a manner. We only wanted to remind her. Nothing more. The customer went crazy on me for no earthly reason. I explained (or tried to explain) it was a reminder . She would not stop yelling. I am sad for all the understanding. 
I am mailing a check for her deposit right this moment.

YES!!! I would appreciate my refund of $30! Thank You! However, Bonnie is not telling the truth. When I made the transaction to put the purse in the layaway, I asked the lady S[redacted] how much do I need to put down? She told me $20 dollars would put it in the Layaway. I said to her, "really" I told her, let me go to the car and get the money from my husband. My husband gave me $30.00. I told S[redacted] instead of putting down $20 dollars, I will put down $30 dollars, because I really liked the purse. She then told me, I had up to 30 days to get it out. I told her, no worries, I am getting it out and I said if my disability check comes,  I will try getting it out in about a week and a half, but if not I will be here within 30 days. Truthfully, if she had said $36, I would have put $36 dollars on it.
 Secondarily, I did NOT call her back yelling! Why would I do that? She called to remind me, which was nice and I was excited cause I knew hubby was going to get it for me Saturday 2/8/14. I really was pleasant when I called back, but Bonnie was so rude and when I asked her why was she talking to me that way, she told me off and then hung up on me while I was talking. I called back and told her I wanted the name of the person who spoke so rudely to me and that I wanted to report her. to the manager or corporates. I had no idea it was Bonnie herself. She humiliated me even further, by arrogantly and rudely informing me that she is corporate, she is Bonnie and that she is the owner and basically complaints gets no higher than her. She made me feel it was okay for her to be rude and I didn't have a leg to stand on. She tells me to "enjoy your day and come get your purse!!! And she hung up on me right in the middle of me talking :-(  By the 3rd. Call I am furious and told her, I have never been treated like this before, and I hope this isn't because I am a black woman or you think I can't afford it, I will be calling channel 8 regarding your bad customer service treatment from your store. At which point she hung up on me again. Unbelievable! Think about it, anyone would be angry!  All, she had to say was, Mrs. [redacted], I am just having a bad day- I apologize for any misunderstanding. And, I would have understood, but she was rude, demanding and inconsiderate of my feelings, and I feel NO ONE, should have to be subjected such bad treatment. So, Bonnie lied to you about the circumstances, however (unfortunately), I knew she would.  Normally, I would let it go. But, because of her rudeness and lack of consideration. I Feel that I deserve my $30 dollars back and that this should not happen to anyone else. Please make sure she does, because she is determined not to follow through. Once again Thank You, Mr. [redacted].
