Boeing Helicopter Credit Union

On Wednesday February 19, 2020 at apprx. 9:30am I entered the *** branch of BHCU to close out my account. I called the credit union prior to my arrival to ensure that there would be no concerns. After speaking with Michelle in the *** office, she confirmed that all my funds were available, then checked my available funds online which stated that all my funds were indeed available. I informed Michelle that I would be going to the Ridley office to close my account and thanked her for her help.

I arrive at the Ridley branch to close my account and Inform the head teller, Nancy that I would like to close my account. She immediately tells me that they must put an extra 2 day hold on my last deposit to make sure it clears. I found this strange and offensive since I have been a member there for over 5 years and they know me very well. It was a small amount of money less than $2,000 and the check was drawn on a large local bank. When I began to calmly ask Nancy why I was being treated in this manner her hands began to shake and she took a defensive posture as if I was doing or about to do something wrong.

I then asked to speak to a supervisor or manager and a woman named Cheryl came out and as I informed her that I was concerned because now I'm getting conflicting stories as to why I can't close my account. Cheryl then tells me that they reserve the right to hold deposits if they see fit. She referred to several ACH drafts in my account that had not cleared. I asked what does an ACH draft have to do with placing my deposit on hold for extra days, she told me I could not close my account till net Monday. When I began to document this experience Cheryl threatened to call the police on me. I am a Black man and Black men have been killed and assaulted due to a white person calling the police for no reason. This was an act of ethnic intimidation and would not have happened if I was a white man.
