Bob Thomas Ford West Reviews (%countItem)

My husband and I bought a 2009 Ford F-150 truck from Bob Thomas Ford West on 8/26/2019. The truck had just under 74,000 miles on it when we bought it. When we met with the salesperson, I asked if the truck was in good repair and he responded, "Yes, it passed a 120 point inspection." He also stated that the previous owner took immaculate care of the truck and did a lot of his own servicing. The truck is only driven by our 16 year old son to and from school (approximately 10 miles a day) and occasionally to and from the tennis club a couple times a week(approximately 20 miles round trip). We were getting reminders to have the oil changed at 80,000 miles but the truck only had 77,000 miles on it. Nevertheless my husband scheduled it for an oil change and we were told at that appointment that the truck needs $2000 worth of repairs for items that are non-maintenance in nature (various leaks and items we would believed the dealership would have done to the truck when buying it from the previous owner and before offering it to the public). When we called the dealership and questioned how the truck could pass the 120 point inspection with all of the leaks and significant repairs needed, the sales manager said the truck could have some leaks and still pass the inspection and the dealership wouldn't have to do the repairs. This is misrepresentation and unethical. The salesperson understood what we were asking when we asked if the truck was "in good repair" or he wouldn't have boasted about the 120 point inspection and the fact that the prior owner took such great care of the truck. This should not be allowed. We have barely driven the truck since buying it (for $13000, I might add--the most expensive truck of this age that we were looking at) and now we are saddled with $2000 of repairs that are not routine maintenance. We expect to pay routine maintenance items after buying an older truck, but these non-maintenance repairs should have been done by the dealership before offering the truck to the public.

We understand the complaint of the consumer, but the F-150 was traded in and ran through our safety inspection. We even replaced rear brake pads based on that inspection. We have no control over what the previous owner may have done to hide any prior issues to our safety check. No leaks were apparent when our safety check was performed. We also cannot foresee how the current customer uses any vehicle we sell. The truck was sold AS-IS and the consumer was also offered the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty on a 10 yr old truck and they Declined to do so.

I am rejecting this response because:

When we inquired about the “in good repair” condition of the truck the dealership salesperson responded, “oh yes, the truck passed our 120-point inspection” and the salesperson also told us the former owner did most of his own maintenance work on the truck and kept it in immaculate condition. Now the dealership is saying the former owner may have intentionally hidden repair items from the dealership when he traded in the truck. That’s not much of an inspection by the dealership if they cannot find over $1000 worth of leaks in the truck when they inspected it. As communicated to the dealership, our son had driven the truck less than 3000 miles after buying it when we brought it in for an oil change PRIOR TO It being due for an oil change based on mileage driven. The leaks in the truck were not caused by our minimal use of the truck and were pre-existing before we purchased it. Lastly, buying an extended warranty on a 10 year old vehicle makes no sense because such warranties always exclude repairs that are deemed to be wear and tear related and the dealership would certainly have taken the position that the leaks in the truck were because it is 10+ years old. Bottom line is the dealership performed an inspection of the truck that only looked at what was the bare minimum that had to be done to the truck to make it pass their inspection but then represented to the consumer that the truck was “in good repair,” well maintained by it’s former owner and we relied to our detriment on those misrepresentations. If the salesperson had told us that they couldn’t verify whether the truck needed any significant repairs we would’ve taken it to someone for an inspection before we considered buying it. AND once we learned from that independent inspection that it needed so many repairs we would’ve negotiated on the price we were willing to pay for it rather than paying the asking price. We are out $2000 due to the dealership’s mischaracterization of the condition of the truck.

I purchased a vehicle 2/22/19 from Steve *** at the Ford West store. I was rushed the whole time because he kept telling me he had an appointment coming in soon, even though he was fully aware all day that I would be in to purchase the vehicle. Upon leaving the dealership after purchase, my car beeped at me telling me the tire pressure monitor sensors were faulted. I pulled over and checked my tires out, which were all fine. I got the car inspected 2/25 by another local dealership where it was discovered that the sensors had been taken off of EVERY tire. If a routine maintenance inspection had been performed on this vehicle prior to sale, they would have noticed the safety hazard in having no gauges working properly. Not to mention, the vehicle was out of gas upon purchase and it is standard protocol to fill up the gas tank in a vehicle before you sell it. When I told Steve I wanted there to be fuel in the vehicle so I could drive it home, he said he has nothing to do with that aspect of selling cars.

Attached is all the documentation which clearly shows and explains that at no time was there ever a tire pressure light on during the time the vehicle was in possession of Bob Thomas Ford. Tire Pressure Monitoring System lights illuminate when pressures are too low or high or when there is a malfunction or damage to a sensor located inside the wheel. No TPMS lights were ever on during our trade appraisal, service inspection or test drive of the vehicle by this customer.
