My 2014 BMW *** X-Drive purchased from Town+Country BMW (Now BMW Markham) has just fallen out of warranty, as of July 2018, has encountered a complete transmission failure, which I will now have to address through a full rebuild or a full replacement. The transmission is stuck in limp-mode (fail-safe): with gears in 3, and on occasion on 5. Driving from a complete stop yields terrible gear slippage. I was advised by my trusted transmission specialist that my transmission needs to be rebuilt (or be replaced with new).
Anyway, what's obvious now is the poor quality monitoring on behalf of BMW and it's agents, and of course ZF's (BMW's Transmission supplier) QC given that my reasonably owned (I have babied this vehicle), BMW-only serviced vehicle, with a mere 90k (just out of warranty) 4.5-year life, now requires a critical repair/replacement of a major component. I even paid for BMW's own multi-point inspection (at my purchasing dealership) prior to my warranty's end, which showed no issues with the car.
I'm so disappointed with this "ultimate driving machine," and soon to be broke with major components failing unreasonably too soon. Can't see me in another one of BMW's products, not after such a catastrophic failure.
This vehicle was only ever serviced by BMW dealerships in GTA. All records have been maintained. It is not reasonable to expect such a catastrophic failure just outside the warranty period.
Repair or cover the costs of repairing the transmission that has catastrophically failed. It is unreasonable to encounter such a failure just out of warranty period. This transmission has not even been through it's regular mechanical life cycle.
The complaints were filed by me around the same time that BMW Canada and BMW Markham began assessing my complaints. I do not want to discourage either party by having an issue posted by me prior to them offering their final resolution.
BMW Canada and BMW Markham have offered to cover 80% of the costs to replace the defective transmission in my vehicle. Per their initial offer, I will still be on the hook for 20% of the total costs of about $15,000. I have proposed a revision to their approach to allow me to absorb a reduced burden, me covering labour ($2,200 approximately), and BMW covering parts. BMW Markham is working with me to pitch my proposition to BMW Canada.
I think that in order to entice both parties to offer me their best, it would likely be best this complaint be rescinded. If BMW Canada and/or BMW Markham are not willing to work with me in reducing my burden, then a complaint addressing the matter to either or both entities would be justified.
Please advise and let me if you agree. If you do, please go ahead and rescind both complaints.
