A friend bought the $49.00 package (virus protection and firewall) and shared one of the three protections allowed. Nearly a year later, I started getting renewal notices. The notices warned her subscription would expire, and we would be without a firewall or virus protection.
I bought the next round. I, also, only paid around $49.00.
YESTERDAY, I checked my bank statements and learned Bitdefender pinged my account for $151.00. Going to the web site, they pinged me FOR THREE PLANS [for two computers].
We did a bit of digging and learned Bitdefender ALSO pinged her an additional (separate) $89.00 the previous year, AFTER we bought the $49.00 package in response to their warnings the subscription would expire.
Keep in mind, I set up the accounts to NOT auto renew. Doing so is a feat, since Bitdefender buries the means of disabling auto-renew so deep the average person couldn't find it.
Isn’t it interesting, you can opt into Bitdefender’s services via a few clicks, but you have to have above average knowledge of the Net and computers to get out?
TOO, Bitdefender set the means of canceling auto renew up in such a way there is no visible evidence you did cancel it. The best you can do is, hit Print Screen, then past the screen capture into a photo editing program and save it.
Sadly, it appears the only secure way to dodge Bitdefenders auto-renew is, cancel the card you bought it with.
Inasmuch as the aforementioned problems show up over and over again in reviews, it appears those of us being burned by Bitdefender should be filing complaints with our state attorneys general and warning others away from it every chance we get.
Too, we should be shaming those so called experts who include it in their “TOP TEN VIRUS PROGRAMS” without warning their readers of the perils of doing business with these scammers.
ANOTHER PROBLEM, pointed out by many people, is, I just checked the task manager and see the program is eating in excess of 500 MEGS of memory. This program acts as much like an infection as it does a virus program.
