Thank you for forwarding Mr. [redacted]’s concern.  We were very surprised to read his comments about the medication making his dog sick and his concern that the medication almost killed her.  His dog was diagnosed with a tick-borne disease.  The treatment of this disease is...

a course of antibiotics.  When Mr. [redacted] contacted us about the side effects his dog had experienced when receiving the first few doses of this medication, we recommended that he discontinue the use of that antibiotic. The side effects she experienced were not life threatening and according to Mr. [redacted] did resolve once he stopped the medication.  When Mr. [redacted] inquired about returning the unused antibiotic, we explained that we unfortunately are unable to take back medication once it has left our hospital.  We understand his frustration by this, but we do not want to dispense medication to a pet owner if we can not account for how it has been handled prior to being sent home with a sick patient.  We are disappointed that we could not provide Mr. [redacted] with an answer that met his satisfaction.  Mr. [redacted] stated in his complaint that he would not be returning to the hospital, however, we have provided additional service to his pet following this incident.
