Had a door to door salesman offer a security alarm system for my home. My privacy violated in this process.On Jan 2nd, a sales rep for Ben Franklin security named [redacted] knocked on my door and offered a new security system since we already had service with ADT. The installation and equipment were all free provided I sign a 3 year agreement. I still had 9 more months to fulfill my agreement with ADT unless I was willing to pay a cancellation fee. The rep assured me if I found out what the fee would be, he could write a check right there on the spot so I could start there service today. After 15 min on hold with ADT, I told the rep I will just call him with the price and he can come back at a later date. Other than hearing the reps sales pitch and details of the alarm system, I had not given any information besides my name. Obviously he had my address because he came to my home. I did not fill out or sign anything nor release any of my personal information to this rep. The following morning I had a credit alert from my Experian monitoring service that I had a hard inquiry on my report. When I logged in, I saw that my credit was pulled from Ben Franklin Security the previous day. Completely shocked that my personal information was just released without my authorization, but also this was a direct violation per the Fair Credit Reporting Act. I immediately called the rep and asked why my credit was pulled from Ben Franklin without my approval and he said this was a normal procedure to just make sure I was the owner of the home and I was who I said was. I then asked how he checked my credit without my social or birth date, and he explained that all his company needs to pull credit is a name and address. I let him know that I was not happy and this business practice is illegal. He apologized and said that this is all a normal procedure. He offered to come back to my home and show me how he checked my information without my social and I respectfully declined and ended the call. My complaint with Ben Franklin Security is the fact they are pulling prospecting customers credit without there approval who hasn't agreed to anything at all besides hearing information. There is a major privacy issue that is being violated.I am also consulting an attorney about this matter. If these door-to-door salesman really have the ability to pull credit with just a name and address, then there are many more people's privacy at risk here.Desired SettlementI am requesting that Ben Franklin Security delete all my personal information from there system immediately. Also, when I dispute this inquiry with Experian, they need to acknowledge them the issue and have the inquiry removed permanently from my credit report.Business Response /[redacted]/We do not have access to any information from experian after 60 days unless a customer is created. No customer was created from this request and therefore we have no information.Consumer Response /[redacted]/(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)The unauthorized credit inquiry from Ben Franklin remains on my experian credit report. I have already disputed this inquiry directly with experian and it still continues to remain there. As a Business client of Experian, Ben Franklin need to get this removed off my report.
