I went to the Batteries Plus *** on 1/5/20 to get a replacement key fob for by 2007 Ford Fusion. When I arrived at the store a young man told me that he would first try to re-program the current keys. I handed him both of my keys and he proceeded to my car in the parking lot with a laptop computer. The young man was in the car for well over 20 minutes. I went out to check on him several times. He explained to me that he was having trouble. He eventually went in to get another employee to come out and help him. The other employee went out and sat in the driver's side of the vehicle while the other young man sat in the passenger side. After about 10 minutes my car horn honked excessively. I was getting concerned so I went outside. The more senior employee and the young man who initially looked at the car both got out of the car and the more senior employee abruptly handed me my keys and informed me that there was nothing he could do, that the problem is with my car. I asked him if I could get in and drive it home and he told me no, it's completely dead. I told him that I drove it to the store without any problems. The car only has 60k miles on it and is in pristine condition. He then handed me a wrench to disconnect my own battery while the alarm continued to sound. I was about to disconnect the battery when it stopped alarming. With that I had to call AAA and have the car towed to *** on a flatbed. The AAA technician and the AAA tow truck driver both informed me that Batteries Plus probably "wiped out" both keys that it would have to go to the dealer for repair. The AAA tow truck driver also commented "let me guess, they are not taking any responsibility for this." He was correct. *** created a new fob for me and reset the security settings for the vehicle. The bill at *** was $451 which I paid. I also lot a half day dealing with this issue. I called Batteries Plus corporate office on two occasions. I did get a call back from the office letting me know that the store manager of that store is aware, is sorry for the problem and would be calling me. I still have had no call back. I called the office again and still have not heard back from anyone. As stated, I drove my car in without a problem and it left on a tow truck. I don't think there is any dispute that Batteries Plus is responsible. Lastly, I was never given any paperwork from the store indicating what they did, no receipt at all.
We will offer the consumer $150 for the damage; but the car was damaged when he came in.
