Bates Construction

Review: In 2011 a contract was signed with Bates Construction to put a new roof on my house. The contract has a 5 year warranty. In the summer of 2015 it became apparent that water was leaking from the roof into several rooms of my home. Bates was called and came out several times. Mr. Bates fixed one leak after a few visits, but indicated that the main source of water was a siding issue and not a problem with the new roof. Bates was called and messages left multiple times, mostly without returned calls after my own inspections seem to indicate the issue was indeed the roof installation. After months of trying to pinpoint the problem and many calls to other contractors I called my insurance company who came out last week. The insurance company brought an independent roofer who provided a report indicating the problem is with the valley in the area leaking. The shingles were not installed correctly. The roofer who came with the insurance company also indicated other installations on the roof that do not meet building codes in relation to ice and water shields. The contract with Bates Construction specified ice and water shield on all eves of roofs and not all eves had the correct ice and water shield installed.Desired Settlement: I would like Bates Construction to re-do the valley that was installed incorrectly, install the correct Ice and Water Shield according to building codes, repair all damage caused by the leak as a result of the incorrect installation of valley shingles, and address all other deficiencies noted in the independent contractor's report.
