NOT the bank to be with during COVID-19 They don't care
My wife and I have been with this bank for a very long time, and had never had a problem. My wife was actually with this bank, years before I was even. We actually moved out of Greenville, but still used them, since we loved them so much. That was until they refused to accept a check. My wife does photography on the side, not enough to justify a separate account. A client made the check out to my wife's name, with the word photography on the end. The bank refused to take it, because of that. Yet she cashed checks of mine there, long before I had an account there. So basically it could have another person's name, be signed, and they would gladly cash it. But because of that extra word, they wouldn't even let her deposit it, which is crazy. She has banked with them for years, and any good bank would have let her deposit it. So after today, they have lost our business, and we will be banking elsewhere. I would recommend not using them.
Mr. L,
We apologize for the inconvenience. We have researched this internally so that we can provide the best possible response to your concern. You are correct that checks may have been cashed in the past even when your name did not appear on the account. Banking rules allow double endorsement which is essentially the payee endorses the check, as does the second party who then assumes responsibility for the check should it be returned. In those cases, the transaction can be completed with little effect to the consumer.
In the case where a check is made to a business but being deposited to a personal account, there are variables to consider. First, it involves both business and personal procedures whereas the example above is all personal. Although the check included the name of an individual listed on the account, adding “Photography” to the payee line placed the check into the business category. Additionally, there may be instances where business checks can be deposited to a personal account; however, they cannot be presented to be cashed.
We appreciate your patience as we worked to understand the specifics of this transaction. If we can be of further assistance in this or any other matter, please reach out to us.
