Automotive Exchange & Supply Reviews (1)

Review: Steering rack became defective on my car. [redacted] sublet the rebuilding of my rack to Automobile Exchange and Supply (AES). After rebuild [redacted] installed rack in my car and I took delivery when work was completed. While driving home I noticed power steering was not working. Informed RSR mechanic who contacted ACS to ascertain/verbally troubleshoot

lack of power steering problem. ACS requested I bring car by today for troubleshooting

questioning a valve they had installed may have too much pressure. Power steering worked

great prior to rack replacement. So..on 12 Jul 2013 I drove car to AES for troubleshooting.

Upon arrival shop foreman had his senior mechanic look at car. He raised hood and

looked at non-running engine and said power steering pump was defective? I insisted

they put car on rack and check out problem as I felt I had no financial obligation to

fix induced problem. Car was put on rack and I waited. Two hours later I was told car

was ready but check with shop foreman. He informed me they had rebuilt the power steering pump and would not give me keys until I paid $162.40 for the pump rebuild.

I attempted call to Rsr who had installed rack to see what to do. No response. Finally I

reluctantly gave the shop foreman a check to get my keys back and I departed.Desired Settlement: While waiting on troubleshooting procedures I was never informed the power steering pump was being rebuilt, no estimate or permission requested of me. I made it clear

to shop foreman I wasn't paying for fix as it was subletted to him for rebuild and I

had power steering before rack was changed out. There is no way a mechanic can

look at an engine and tell if it is not a faulty rack and a bad power steering pump. The rebuilding of pump was conducted without my consent or estimated price given to me.

I feel the mechanic who installed rack and AES should hash problem out with no financial cost from me. I had already paid $660for for repair which included rack rebuild by AES. If the pump was working correctly prior to new rack installation why should I pay $162for extra for a failed part when I have no knowledge of what caused it to fail?

I feel AES should absorb the cost as I had no knowledge of rebuild or cost incurred.
