Sales/ Marketing is full of pseudoscience and their "structured water" is a scamThey charge roughly thousand dollars for a filtration systemThat is not a typo, again, that is TEN THOUSAND DOLLARSWhile they do talk about the established carbon and ion exchange filtration systems, they use claims NOT SUPPORTED by science to drive their main structured water marketing
They scare people into believing that their current tap water will cause all sorts of problems and waste, and use this to scam them into thinking that 10,dollars will actually save them moneyYou may think that these people deserve to be scammed if they believe that, but when you convince someone that their current water is harming them and their children, it's not hard to imagine the more uneducated public falling for this

Scammers! Scammed an older couple saying they fixed their water problems and ph levels.
We checked with a legit water treatment company because there was still a problem. Now we have to pay the new company to fix it.
I called awp to complain but they wouldn't do anything for their mess up.

Review: They sent out a very misleading postcard stating the following, "Water Update". Unfortunately, we have been unable to contact you by phone. Please contact us within the next 72 hours. Call between 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM - Monday thru Friday. 9:00 AM - 1 PM - Saturday. [redacted]. Thank you. I noticed that concerns over this particular mailing have been raised dating back almost 6 months (according to previous complaints). Already in June they had promised to remove such mailings from circulation. This demonstrates that this company has never followed through with the promises made to the Revdex.com and those making the complaints. At some point the Revdex.com needs to hold them accountable for their dishonest advertising as well as their dishonesty responses to the Revdex.com. I personally believe that the Revdex.com needs to dock this company's score UNTIL they demonstrate over the course of at least 2-3 months that they have not sent out more dishonest mailings.Desired Settlement: I want their rating to be adjusted until they can demonstrate over the course of 2-3 months that they have abandoned such dishonest mailings. Once they achieve 2-3 months without complaints of disingenuous advertising, then and only then should they have their rating restored.

Response:

Dear Revdex.com: While we do regret that a portion of our market finds our mailing

piece to be a nuisance. We did, in fact,

attempt to add disclaimers and cease the mailing, however, both attempts

resulted in a loss of business. While we understand that direct blind

marketing can be a nuisance to some, it is a valuable tool in our organization,

as well as many other companies. Blind marketing direct mail pieces are

used by many, many businesses throughout the U.S. While there are a handful

of individuals who are unhappy with this marketing program, we have

acquired many new happy customers who now own our product and now enjoy clean

healthy water in their homes. Thank you.

Review: I received the same yellow postcard about which several complaints have been filed for appearing to come from a utility company with urgent news about the resident's water supply:

"WATER UPDATE

Unfortunately, we have been unable to contact you by phone or home visit. Please contact us within the next 72 hours.

Call Between

9:00am - 9:00pm - Monday thru Friday

9:00am - 1pm - Saturday [redacted] Thank You"

As far as I can tell, the only thing they changed is the phone number. Designing a postcard with a disclaimer is one thing; actually mailing it is another. Clearly this misleading postcard is essential to their business. I'm surprised they still have a B+ rating.Desired Settlement: No contact from the company, by mail or phone. I would like AWP to create postcards that clearly explain it's an advertisement from a private company selling water products. Then I'd like them to use those postcards and discontinue using the deceptive ones.

Business

Response:

Dear Revdex.com: We apologize for the delay in responding to this complaint. We have discontinued this advertising program and are in the process of redesigning the mailing to add a disclaimer stating "This is a commercial solicitation from Atlantic Water Products Delaware Division, Inc. AWP is a private company, etc." The draft of the new mailer is not completed at this time. We would like to further state that it is possible the pieces referred to in this complaints are with our mail distributors and are mailed in lots at different times. We are unable to retrieve the pieces that have not yet been mailed and they will probably reach homeowners over the next few weeks. However, we have not placed any of the cards referred to in this complaint with any of our mail distributors for future mailings. Thank you. [redacted]

Review: I received a bright yellow notice in the mail statiing "WATER UPDATE" in big bold letters. It states "Unfortunately, we have been unable to contact you by phone or home visit. Please call us within the next 72 hours".

No where on this notice does it announce that it is a sales notice. Nor does it offer the name of the service company. It is intentionally made to appear as an issue with the water service to get you to call to listen to a sales pitch. This is deceptive advertising, and a Revdex.com accredited business should do better.Desired Settlement: I would like to see this company add "advertisement" to their mailer, so that they don't dupe people into getting a product or service from them thinking it is actually the water company.

Business

Response:

Dear Revdex.com: We have written a letter of apology to [redacted] advising her that we have taken her suggestion into consideration and will have our mailers redesigned with more information. Thank you. [redacted]

After purchasing the 8 to 10 thousand dollar water softener system they neglect to mention the annual upkeep and service that has ranged from $200 to $400 dollars for the last 3 years. There is always Carbon something that needs replacement or I need new filters even though I don't use my filtration system cause I have a water cooler. This service is over priced.

Sales/ Marketing is full of pseudoscience and their "structured water" is a scam. They charge roughly 10 thousand dollars for a filtration system. That is not a typo, again, that is TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. While they do talk about the established carbon and ion exchange filtration systems, they use claims NOT SUPPORTED by science to drive their main structured water marketing.

They scare people into believing that their current tap water will cause all sorts of problems and waste, and use this to scam them into thinking that 10,000 dollars will actually save them money. You may think that these people deserve to be scammed if they believe that, but when you convince someone that their current water is harming them and their children, it's not hard to imagine the more uneducated public falling for this.

Review: The company willfully misleads with an advertisement that appears to be from a utility. They misrepresent attempts to contact the consumer (which of course they did not make). There have been a number of complaints about this practice to this company and the company continues to conduct business in the same manner.Desired Settlement: Spend less time trying to trick customers and more time developing a service that doesn't requiring lying to sell.

Review: The yellow postcard that we received is very misleading. It lists the mailer as only AWP. It states on the front and back that there is WATER UPDATE. On the back it indicates that they have been trying to contact me for 72 hours and that I need to call them immediately. It would appear that there is problem with my water utilities. However, this company is using a misleading postcard to have me call them. The Revdex.com indicates that they company has stated that they have STOPPED this practice of sending postcards, but clearly they have not as I received this postcard 6/23/14.Desired Settlement: I would like for them to stop contacting me AND to stop this method of misleading advertising.

Review: My husband and I had a water system installed on February 2, 2014 and my contract indicates Atlantic Water Products would pay for 11 monthly payments. These payments were to arrive as a lump-sum check when an associate returned after a few weeks to test our improved water quality. That associate returned for the test on April 9 and reported that our check would arrive within a few days. I waited until June and called that associate directly on his cell phone. He sounded a little frustrated (with other employees) and embarrassed that the check had not arrived and insisted we didn't need to be as patient as we had been. Again, he said the check should be on its way soon.

We waited until late July and have been calling and emailing them approximately weekly. Through their main phone line, my husband chose some options and reached two different voicemail boxes that have not yielded responses. I reached a customer service person (from billing and payment) who gave me a specific name and extension to try. We have yet to reach that person and have not gotten responses to two voicemails. My husband tried the 'Contact Us' option on their website two weeks ago and has not gotten a response.Desired Settlement: The promised refund on our contract amounts to 10% of our price - $720. We request the refund that was already agree upon, and we invite Atlantic Water to offer a $25 late fee plus 5-months interest (at 8% annually) - a total of $769.

Business

Dear Revdex.com: We have investigated the matter addressed in this complaint by [redacted]. It appears that messages were not forwarded to the proper department and therefore were inadvertently overlooked. We have issued a check today to [redacted] in the amount of $769 as she requested. We regret any inconvenience that was caused by this miscommunication. Thank you. [redacted]

Review: Deceptive Practices Continue. In response to the last complaint in Feb on this site, company said they would change their deceptive letters. I also have received one/they have not.

Yellow form designed to mislead the consumer into thinking they are delinquent regarding a utility: "WATER UPDATE. Unfortunately, we have been unable to contact you by phone or home visit. Please contact us within the next 72 hours. Call between 9:00am - 9:00 pm - Monday thru Friday. 9:00am - 1pm - Saturday. [redacted]"

After great concern, did some research online to find out that this is a scam, and multiple consumers have complained to the Revdex.com.Desired Settlement: Change the deceptive practice and wording (lies regarding attempts to contact) to get consumers to contact the company.

Business

Response:

Dear Revdex.com: We are in the process of obtaining a copy of the direct mail piece in question. We have added a disclaimer to this card and will forward it to you as soon as we receive it. Thank you. Sincerely[redacted]

Review: I received a yellow postcard with large bold letters stating "Water Update." On the back was a printed note stating that they have been trying to contact me and need me to call them in the next 72 hours. Nowhere on the notice is any indication that this is a solicitation and not a notice from my water utility.

Research turned up earlier complaints with the Revdex.com regarding this exact type of misleading advertisement. In each complaint AWP has stated that they have ceased this type of false advertising. Evidently, weeks later, they are still performing this type of false advertising.Desired Settlement: I would like the Revdex.com to follow up and note that AWP is not actually changing their practices.

Response:

We have owned our Rainsoft system for almost 15 years to date. Atlantic Water has been consistent and respectful with regard to service thus far . They have relocated our system twice in that time and were always courteous and pleasant to deal with. The water system itself performs well and has not required any attention other than the filter changes.

Review: water system - promised no maintenance cost other than salt

I'd like to file a complaint about the sales practices for this water system. This is the company that goes through the [redacted]. The company uses high pressure sales techniques, and even argues to the point of making people uncomfortable. The most important thing is that we were promised no maintenance fees, other than salt. Last year we paid around $200 in maintenance and over $400 this year. That is not free. The salesman promised us a lifetime warranty on everything and then when I call the company that does the servicing (there are many companies involved and this part too is confusing) they said of course its not free. We paid $8k for the system, which the sales person tricked us by saying its really $10k, and he was giving us a break, only to then find out we could pay up to another $1k in maintenance annually is wrong. It's lying. The water system is excellent, but we feel like we were really taken advantage of and had we known about the exorbitant maintenance costs that might have changed our mind in purchasing it. Also, there is no upfront maintenance schedule so that consumers can understand what they are getting themselves into.Desired Settlement: I'd love for them to cover all that free annual maintenance we were promised but since I don't know how much it is, I have no idea what the settlement amount would be.

Dear Revdex.com: Our general manager has been in contact with the customer. We have addressed the issues and have resolved the complaint. Thank you. [redacted]

Review: The business sent unsolicited mail designed to appear as if it is from my utility company. The intent is to make me worried that there is a problem with my water supply, so that I will call them, thinking that I am calling my utility company to resolve a problem. They sent a card in the mail with the following text: "WATER UPDATE Unfortunately, we have been unable to contact you by phone. Please contact us within the next 72 hours," followed by contact information. No information is provided on the card which might indicate the nature of the company who sent it, other than their initials (AWP). They do not indicate that this is not notice of a bill or other problem. The only purpose of this is to trick me into calling them, so that they can try to sell their services.Desired Settlement: AWP should stop this mail fraud.

Review: We had their water softening system installed shortly after moving into our new home, a new construction home.In hindsight, the system was probably unecessary as pipes and plumbing were all brand new but the salesman was persistant, talked about the health benefits of alkaline water and how the alkaline water had even helped his wife's cancer. I am a Registered Nurse and mother of three and the quality of the water my family drinks is very important to me and I was buying CASES of water weekly, of which the salesman talked about all the money I would save. The system was great at first, but after a year, a horrible sulfur smell was coming from our water. Every faucet in the house would eminate a "rotten egg" smell when turned on. On October 17, 2014, the company sent a man out to inspect the problem and replace some filters (at my expense) since we were due for our yearly maintenance anyway. The man had to run bleach through the lines and do some reverse process, and let the faucets run. I didn't feel comfortable having a stranger upstairs around the bedrooms or upstairs bathrooms, so I told him I would be the one to go upstairs and run the water and check for improvement. He proceeded to run past me and up the stairs into one of the bathrooms. I couldn't believe it! I ran up after him, and stood in the hallway blocking entrance to my bedroom/bathroom. I INSISTED again that I will check my bathroom and insisted he please wait downstairs, which he did finally! He supposedly replaced some filters as well as corrected the sulfur smell and proceeded to tell me about how people usually tip him and one man gave him over $1000 tip!!! I was not about to tip someone so disrespectful. I paid $183.00 and he left. The water NEVER tasted the same after he left. I called the company again a week or so later, told them about what happened and that I REFUSED to have that same man come into my home again. They sent another guy, he supposedly again replaced some filters, this time at no charge, which is only fair because I had just pain $183.00 for nothing. The water has not been the same since any of that. I have been back to buying CASES of water weekly for almost a year. We have not used the alkaline faucet in almost a year as the water does not have the same taste or quality since this incident. In addition to this ongoing problem, we had a more serious incident. Our water bills from the township are typically $100 every three months. Recently, we received a bill for $1,152!! Guess where the source of the problem was? The water system. On September 11, 2015, the water department sent out a very nice man to help us find the source of the problem, which typically comes from a leak when there is a jump in the bill that high. This man found the water filtration system was running continuously!! And for an unkonwn length of time!! The system was pulling water in from the street running it through a backwash and sending it directly out to our septic system!! Thousands and thousands of gallons. 290,000 gallons to be exact, now sitting in our septic tank. We called the filtration company and they told us over the phone how to turn off the system manually. The water would bypass the filtration system, but at least the leak had stopped. The filtration comany said they would have to send out someone to inspect the problem AND it would cost ME a $99 service charge!! I told them I refuse to pay, it was not my fault their system malfunctioned! They sent someone out anyway that same day, September 11th, as someone was in my area, I told him immediately, I was not paying anything! He said he wouldn't collect anything form me today, he would just check the system. He found that the computer motherboard that controls the WHOLE system was dead, and he had no idea why. The computer is what tells the system to turn off and on and without it, the system will run continuously, which it did!! He said he had to re-order a new motherboard. In the meantime, today is September 27th and we are still without a motherboard and without a filtration system. I spoke to someone on Friday, Spetember 25 at the company, told her that we DO NOT want the system any longer and that it has caused us nothing but problems. She told me that they will replace the part and pay the water bill, but WE NO LONGER WANT THE SYSTEM! She told me there is nothing that can be done about that, that they cannot take the system back, as you only have a THREE DAY window to return the system and it had been over a year. This is my complaint. If a system fails to deliver what it was promised to do, and has caused considerable problems why don't I have any rights as a consumer to say I no longer want the product? Even cars have lemon laws in place to protect consumers. Cable companies and cellular phone companies have early termination conditions. Why not a water filtration company? I feel scammed. I want this system gone.Desired Settlement: I want the system taken out and contract terminated due to nothing but problems on our end and failure to deliver what was promised on their end.

Review: In January of 2013, we had a salesman come to our house after multiple calls attempted to get us to set the appointment. Taking a huge portion of our day, he completed a presentation in which he first used scare tactics about the quality of our water and then proceeded to promise savings even after paying for the product which was $8000. For this huge pricetag, we were promised that the whole system was covered and we would never have to worry about it, however, when trying to get yearly maintenance on the unit, they want to charge $185 to give me a couple of new filters.

After having this product for a year, I can identify no savings that it has provided and although it has marginally improved the quality of our water I look back on this purchase as the worst decision I have ever made in my life. The only positive I can attribute to this products is that I have a hefty monthly payment to remind me that I should never trust a sales person that comes to my home again.Desired Settlement: I would like the maintenance on this unit to be covered by the company for the life of the system (as was promised in the sales pitch), or I would like them to remove the system from my house and issue a full refund.

Business

Response:

Dear Revdex.com: Attached is a copy of the contract signed by [redacted]. There is an explanation of the routine maintenance requirements in the lower right hand corner of the contract. The owner has the option of maintaining the system, all that would be required is the purchase of the necessary replacement filters and salt. We would be happy to supply [redacted] with the filters by mail. The filters that need to be replaced yearly are for the reverse osmosis drinking system and those filters are $42/filter, plus NJ Sales Tax. We accept all major credit cards and the order can be placed over the telephone. There is a lifetime manufacturer's warranty on the tanks for any problems or defects and a 10-year warranty on the valve and computer. We would be happy to answer any additional questions or concerns. Thank you. [redacted]

Review: Here is what happened:

You will see from my experience, just by reading through the many misleading tactics that were employed to get someone into our home to sell us this. I first got a card in the mail from 'Lowes" saying that if I filled it out and returned it, I would be sent a $20 Lowes gift card. I had just moved to a new house, so this was appealing to me with all the expenses that come with a new house.

I was then called on Thursday (11/14/2013 @ 2:28pm from the number: 302-544-7117) by someone who claimed to have been from Lowes saying that Lowes was initiating a new program in the area providing free water testing. I was told that they were not selling anything and they were just coming to test the water to provide awareness of water quality. They goal was for people to potentially go to Lowes to use their products for water. They said that they needed both adults at home when the test was done and that along with the gift card, we would be entered into a weekly drawing for free gas for the rest of the year, for our time. They asked for the model year of our cars, saying that it would be used as the pin for the gas card if we won it. They said it would only take an hour to conduct the water test. I feel so stupid for falling for this gimic. I should have known then that Lowes, like other reputable companies would not do that--but since "Lowes" had sent me the card and I had returned it with my information, I didn't think anything of it.

Anyway, I scheduled it and they came the very next evening (11/15/2013), although the guy [redacted] that came had a Home Depot shirt on, he said he works with both companies (now I'm not so sure). He said it is usually someone from Lowes or Home Depot that provides the advertising pitch, but he was special: he worked directly for the water purificaiton company: he actually works for Atlantic Water and Air ( http://atlanticwaterandair.com/ ). He suckered us into signing up to install a full fledged water/air treatment system for our house for $8000 and never gave us any options for anything other than the full system. He said we were getting a deal because if we chose to be in their 'ad program' we would get $2000 off and get all these perks including a free wholesale club and a free subscription to a high-end liquid soap product company. He said that he just needed two families in our area and then the regular sales guys from Lowes / Home Depot would be out: that was why we had to make the decision on the spot. We told him no that it was not a good time, that while we would potentially be interested in a system later, we had just bought a house. He didn't skip a beat and spent another hour with us until we had finally signed. We filled out a credit application (I think--it was so late now that I don't even know what it was). He was at our house for over 3 hours. I was so tired because he didn't leave our house until around 11pm. Again, I feel so stupid for falling for it. The 'contract' was hand written and didn't contain half the things he told us about (like lifetime warranty that includes all labor for system repairs). We were not given any specifics on payment terms: he just said that they would submit the credit application and the bank would determine the APR (His estimate though was 17%--though looking at the 'contract' I don't know if that was in estimate or what we signed at. He said the installers (which he scheduled to come the very next day) would have all the information. They 'conveniently' came and installed everything on 11/16/2013. They guys that came didn't seem to know about Lowe's or Home Depot at all, nor did they know we were participating in a special 'ad program'. They were very professional and did a professional installation, I do grant them that. I also don't dispute that the RainSoft system is a real system (the system they installed---I actually didn't even know the brand of the system until they were installing it). The installers did not have any detailed information about the items the Sales Guy claimed that they would have. Also, after they were done, they said they would take the warranty papers, fill them out and send them in for us. (I now question whether they actually will or whether that action will somehow void any warranty documentation they provided). They told us all the details would be provided to us when the Customer Care rep came to our house 3-5 days after installation to do a retest of the water and answer any questions we had. The name of the Customer Rep they gave was [redacted]. Of course the scheduled time for him to come is conveniently outside the window of the '3 business day right of recision'--the window of time they say you have to tell them you don't want the system anymore.

I was only given their physical address to send the signed 'right of recision' back to them, even though the 'right of recision says I can do it via mail or 'telegraph". It has taken a day for it to sink in, and now I will be fedexing the signed paperwork back to them tomorrow as well as trying to contact them to have them take it out. Based on how I've been misled this whole time, I very nervous that I will be given the run-around tomorrow to stall the removal of the system. Anyway I feel duped about this whole situation and feel that no business should be allowed to continue to mislead people like they are doing.

It is now 11/18/2013 at 3am and I am now working to have them remove the system hoping that I don't have to get attorneys involved in this. (They only gave a mailing address and no email to provide written notification to get out of the contract within 3 days).Desired Settlement: I would like your backing to ensure that they remove the entire system and restore my old water piping at no cost to me.

More importantly, they need to be punished for being so misleading in their sales. They are posing as another company (Lowes) to gain trust and gain access to people's homes to sell them cadillac systems that people don't want/need. In these economic times, it is just dispicable the tactics they are using.
