August 15, 2020. My wife and I visited Amish Furniture Direct on Saturday, August 15, 2020 in Sterling Height, MI around 12:45 pm -1.pm. We are remodeling our home and wanted to purchase a new kitchen dining set. I was very disappointed as after 30 minutes in the store, not one salesperson greeted us, told us they would be with us ASAP, nor as we slowly left the store, even said thanks for stopping or coming by. This would have been a guaranteed sale had they only made an effort to wait on us. I do wonder if the fact that the sales force on staff was all white men of various ages, and the fact that my wife and I are African-Americans had something to do with our lack of treatment. I do not recommend this store based on this treatment.
We apologize for the experience you had coming into our family business. We are short handed at the moment and had a very large influx of customers come in at the same time you and your wife arrived. Because we try our best to provide everyone with adequate time it can be difficult for our staff to greet everyone. For this we apologize.
It is however a very unfair assessment of our family business to imply that we are bias towards people based on something like the tone of their skin. In no shape or form do we tolerate that type of behavior from either our staff or customers and would never treat a customer in such a manner. We are sorry you felt that way coming in. Due to the large volume of customers we could not get to everyone in a timely manner. We hope you will consider stopping into our store again and we'll be more than glad to help you.
I appreciate the response. We will choose to agree to disagree regarding what I view as intentional neglect of a customer based on ethnicity. You have been quite responsive in addressing the online concerns I expressed over our shopping experience. Had that same expediency and attention been shown in the store with a simple, sir/madame, we will be with you as soon as we can, I would not feel the way I do. I will not be back, but I felt that you deserve to know why you lost customer that was ready to buy on that day. My wife and I are going to drive over to Indiana to Shipshewana and make our purchase there of our Amish furniture. Thanks for your reply.
