I entered this magazines' lyric contest in Nov. They claimed they couldn't find my entry or fee. When I demanded a refund they refused.
I entered this magazines' lyric contest in June for entry in their Nov. contest. . I entered 2 lyrics for $30.00 total. I never heard from them. They never sent me acknowledgement. I waited several weeks. I received a email from them last week indicating that they have NO RECORD of my 2 entries OR my fees of $30.00. I told them I wanted a refund since they have " no record ". I sent them my pay pal statement proving that I sent them my payments. Suddenly, after receiving the statements, they now claim they " found " my entry and they refuse to issue a refund. This magazine appears to have a phony lyric contest. They also appear to be lying about suddenly finding my entry and fees !
A full refund of $ 30.00. I do not believe that this magazine ever received my entries.
American Songwriter runs a bi-monhtly lyric contest posted on our website. The winners for each contest are notified of the results and are announced on our website and in each issue of our magazine. Our rules and regulations of the contest state that "An entry fee of $15 payable to American Songwriter is required with each entry. By entering you agree that this entry fee is necessary to cover the processing and administration of the contest." The link below is what the customer agrees to when they fill out the form. There is a box they have to check that shows they agree to the Rules and Deadlines: https://americansongwriter.com/lyric-contest/lyric-rules-and-deadlines/
We have reached out the customer and have provided proof of entry being received, as well as a form of payment as a response to the comment that the contest is a scam.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
This magazine sent me 2 emails indicating that they were unable to find my entries but would give me a refund if they find the entries. When I requested a refund after I proved ( with my emails) that they DID receive my entries and payment they changed their mind . EMAILS ENCLOSED. This magazine CAN NOT prove that my entries were ever seen or reviewed by them. They just took my money with no accountability.
On behalf of American Songwriter, we apologize for the DELAY in finding the records of his entries. Please understand we receive THOUSANDS of entries and the contest is reoccurring where people can continually submit. This entry was dated back in May 2019, so we had to go through each and every submission in order to find his. His name was different for each entry as well, and the search engine is very particular. We have records showing we received his submissions, which we provided via screenshots in our prior response. Once reviewed, we do not reach out personally to each entrant, again due to high volume, but do inform the winners and honorable mentions. They receive the prizes as stated in our contest, and we have successfully supported aspiring writers through this contest for well over 35 years. We are sorry for any confusion on his end, however, there are no grounds he can stand on in his complaint. Everything has been provided to him, but we do apologize it was not in the timeframe he desired. We have attached additional screenshots showing his entries under different names for your convenience. Thank you.
