We received the customer's request for financing and offered approval terms for a maximum of $9, The customer selected an auction house as vendor, and in due process, we requested an invoice properly sold to the lessor (this was a lease transaction) The vendor insisted he would
provide the invoice but ignored our calls, emails, and text messages over the span of a week We advised the customer we could not pay without the invoice, believing the reason the vendor didn't respond was because he had probably already sold the equipment and didn't want to confront the customer The customer chose to drive to the vendor location at no urging from us, and showed up to discover what we suspected all along, the equipment had been soldThe night before the customer arrived to discover this I spoke with him and advised that I believed this to be the case The customer drove to the vendor location of his own free will and was not instructed by us to do so The vendor simply didn't respond to our requests for a proper invoice, so we could not pay him despite the customer being approved Instead of being upset at the vendor for dodging phone calls and failing to provide what we asked for a week ago, the customer is upset with us for not cutting corners and "paying the vendor anyway." Our concern, of course, was that we could have paid the vendor and the customer not ever received his equipment.The customer progressed to harassing text messages and emails calling the women in our office vulgar names, and even making threats that he would "kill me," and that he has "done it before." He said he would drive to our office and assault myself or other personnel in our office To date, the customer paid us only $as a commitment deposit for his approval The terms of the commitment are that we will hang onto the funds as a promise the customer will complete the transaction I do not believe the customer did anything to cause this transaction to not be completed, and despite his bad will and threatening and potentially illegal communications, we are mailing his $back via certified mail on Monday I would like to point out that we prepared documents, validated the vendor, appraised the equipment, and spent a lot of time on this transaction with four employees in my admin office being hands on in this matter We will have lost around $in due diligence, documentation, and payroll costs, but are still willing to refund the money to the customer I don't know what possessed the customer to believe this was our mistake since they were kept in the loop about our attempts to contact the vendor for the entirety of the transaction, but in any event we wish him a better experience with the next seller of equipment To his point about us being punished, I feel that he should be more concerned with filing a complaint with the dealer who could have saved everyone the trouble by simply being honest about having sold the equipment to someone else He also could be more mindful of seller policies, as it seems this seller needed to be paid within hours and claims he was unaware our customer was even financing the equipment.Please let me know if you have any further questionsWe have documented our attempts to reach the seller, his lack of responses, and this customer's attempts to insult, harass, and threaten myself and my employees
