Review: The supervisor at American Adjustment Bureau was unresponsive after repeated phone messages and rude and unprofessional over email.

After receiving a letter from American Adjustment Bureau for an unpaid doctor's bill, I called the number and representative on the bill immediately to discuss. Although I called during the business hours as stated on the bill, it always went to voicemail. I left three messages, none were returned. I finally emailed the representative. He answered my emails in very rude, short answers. When I asked to speak to his supervisor as I felt I was not being helped, he immediately responded (and yes, it was in all caps) "I AM THE SUPERVISOR-WE CANNOT SETTLE-THIS IS NOT A HOSPITAL BILL-THE DOCTORS DO NOT WANT TO SETTLE." His subsequent emails were always in all caps, never with a signature or official information included, and equally unhelpful. When I asked for an email with a signature so that I could have a better record of our conversation, he refused and instead said that an official receipt would be emailed after I'd paid.

I feel that the tone of his emails was hostile and unhelpful, and the way he responded seemed predatory and unprofessional. I do not feel comfortable sending money to a business who behaves in this manner and is unable to respond in a professional, official way when asked for it directly. At the very least, he should be able to provide emails with an official signature when asked so I can have a record of the conversation, so that I am protected from him just taking my money and still reporting a delinquent account even if I have paid. I do not trust this business.Desired Settlement: Ideally I would like the bill to be reduced to $300, which is a fair and reasonable amount.

There are several allegations that have to be addressed. Her emails were answered in a prompt and concise matter. obviously they were not case sensitive when sent ,which was an oversight and should not be construed as abusive. She has a record of the emails coming from AAB which should suffice as to who we are. Emails that were initiated by her.She states that we were unhelpful when in reality we answered her questions. As explained to her in an email,it is AAB policy to delete the credit bureau entry once the account is paid. That is company procedure. The bottom line here is that AAB does not have the liberty to reduce bills that are referred to us simply because she does not want to pay the full amount of the bill. Unfortunately we do not have the option of paying what we feel should be the rate for a medical service.

Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2013/04/04) */

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT ACCEPT the response from the business.)

The tone of the emails was unprofessional and untrustworthy. Regardless of their timely manner, they were written in an unprofessional way and instead gave me pause and led me to question the legitimacy of the business. I still do not feel comfortable giving money to this business, particularly the large ful amount they are asking for. They have still not provided enough of a paper trail or official documentation to back up their claims, which again makes me wary that I could pay this bill and still have the bill on my record. I do not feel comfortable writing checks over to businesses who cannot give me sufficient, official documentation of their practices. Their website is also bereft of any specific information regarding payment or claims.

I will follow up with the hospital's doctor to let them know the tone and tenor of this business, as I think they should be aware that the representatives they have chosen to work on their behalf are not professional in nature. I understand the responsibility of a debt, but I also understand that those who seek money should be able to respond in a professional way and be able to send over documentation when specifically asked that outlines their policies in a way that is verifiable. Just emails back without signatures, and a website without policies on it, does not make the claim that this business is working in a transparent way. Hence, I am still skeptical that even if I pay, there is no record of my payment or the messages from this business, and therefore I have no legally-strong proof to show that I paid at all. They have stacked the deck in their favor so that a customer has no official record of their conversations. The only printed piece I have or will receive from them is a bill, so again, I could see paying this and still not having proof that I paid.

Review: This company continues to call my business phone indicating that they have an important thing to discuss with me. I rarely give out my business phone number and I don't have any issues with outstanding bills. My credit report is flawless, so I don't think they are looking for me nor do they ever mention my name. I was on vacation the week of December 1st and they left numerous messages and continue to "robo call" me.Desired Settlement: I want them to stop calling my work number: ###-###-#### immediately.

Hello

Review: Re: Unresolved dispute with American Adjustment BureauIn December of 2012 after moving from [redacted] to [redacted], I contacted [redacted] from the collection agency American Adjustment Bureau, to make arrangement to pay some outstanding bills referred to the agency by some of my creditors while living in [redacted]. Most of the bills were medical in nature. Some of these were later turned over to American Adjustment Bureau for collection and were subsequently paid by me.After I moved from [redacted] last year, I contacted [redacted] to try and set up a payment plan or settle the balance of these outstanding accounts. At that time, we were able to arrive at an agreement that if I were to pay the amount of One Thousand dollars ($1000.00) that would settle ALL the accounts. He told me that he would not only send me a copy of my payment immediately by email, but that he would notify the credit bureaus that my bill was settled. I have been waiting to receive this confirmation email up to this point almost a year later. Not only does he tell me (when I am able to reach him) that he sent it, he has reassured me that he will send it again. I still have not received it. When I noticed that the negative information from American Adjustment Bureau is still appearing on my credit reports, I requested an investigation from these agencies which they did. Apparently, [redacted] told them that I still have other outstanding bills with them. Due to this investigation, [redacted] then sent me a copy of an old bill by US mail. This new bill is dated 2007! He is producing a bill that is five year old when I settled ALL bills with him due up to 2012!Since I am not able to resolve this matter by myself, I ask your assistance in doing this. I have provided copies of the bill he sent me in August of this year for services I received in 2007, a copy of the credit card payment I made which he collected over the telephone and for which I have not received a receipt, from him as promised, and copies of my crDesired Settlement: 1) Request copy of payment and settlement confirmation.2) Update information on all 3 credit bureau files as paid or satisfied.3) American Adjustment Bureau operates ethically and honor agreements.

Business

Response:

Receipt for settlement will be issued. Also account in question [ $111.41 ] will be closed and necessary paperwork will be sent to Mr. [redacted].

Consumer

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me with the condition that

1) I receive these statements in writting from American Adjustment Bureau.

2) American Adjustment Bureau notifies the three (3) credit bureaus retroactively of the settlement.

3) American Adjustment Burea remove the delinquency notations from my credit files.

On these conditions I will accept a satisfactory resolution.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Review: Automated calls indicated an attempt to collect a debt. There is no debt in my name and my number is in their system in error. They place automated calls to my home every day for more than 1 month. I have called their number [redacted] during normal business hours, as directed and left multiple message as it appears that there is no person to answer phones. They continue to call daily, even after requesting that my phone number be removed from their call list via the [redacted] number that they provide in the message.Desired Settlement: Stop the calls.

Business

Response:

On 02-09-16 consumers phone number was place on our permanent do not call list as requested

Review: Under the payment section of this collection agency's website, under make payments, on the bottom is a section for "other amount" where you type in how much you can pay. I typed in $10 just to get started. I was shocked to see my full account had been paid in full. How can someone just bill you for whatever dollar amount they please?? I did not have the funds in my account causing me to overdraftDesired Settlement: Your fraud costed me $10 in overdraft charge. How can you charge any amount you please when I type in something else?!

Business

Response:

The consumer entered the amount online incorrectly, we had no input on that , we refunded him 190.48 yesterday

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

Sincerely,

Review: A medical bill from [redacted] in [redacted] was sent to American Adjustment bureau. The collection amount is $26. Thhis amount has been paid in 2010. This company has failed to provide me with validation that I still owe this $26Desired Settlement: I would like this item removed from all three of my credit bureaus and also a letter sent me both via email and mail on company letterhead stating that this has been removed from my credit bureaus.

Business

Response:

The account in question still shows a balance on the hospital system of $26.29. The comments state that it is the deductible amount after health insurance paid their portion. However, because of the amount of the bill , we will delete the credit bureau entry.

Review: Completely unprofessional and right out the gate started with a bad attitude. When I noticed they listed my as not paying on a credit reporting site I called. No one would give their name unless I specifically asked for the full name. finally was given over to [redacted].Ask [redacted] what the bill is in relation to. She only knows the name of the medical practice - she does not even know the amount, the date of the service, the services rendered. Nothing. I tell her nothing will be paid till it's been shown that it was a service we used and insurance was complete. She said it would take weeks, possibly months and she will send me a copy of the bill and until then the report stands. If I am not mistaken, if you are going to file a bill as unpaid then the entire bill must me known and available at all times. [redacted] didn't have this information and basically hinted that it would take months and until then my credit score would suffer. Again, this is a problem.I asked [redacted] what had been done to contact me - she had ZERO specifics - she said "normally we call people and most people are responsible to call back." Two things - one she had ZERO idea of when I might have gotten a call. Funny, other complaints talk about robo calls. Two, saying "responsible" implies that since I didn't call back (even though she can't tell me when they called) that somehow I am not responsible. This is totally pathetic and unprofessional. I informed [redacted] that I used to be a federal investigator and that this wasn't inline with normal practices. At that point she got really nasty and dared me to cite the law and then said she was a debt collector.Medical debt is serious - insurance is obtuse at best and it takes people a while to go through insurance. I pay my bills and am so responsible that I called this company less than 24 hours after they filed to the credit scores.Desired Settlement: The bill needs to be sent, in detail, before ANYTHING gets reported. Unless this company can be specific at to when they called and mailed - which they can't - they have ZERO standing. The information to the credit bureaus needs to be removed post haste.

Response:

Hello

We do not agree with his baseless allegations. We always supply and itemization and one was requested on Nov 12th 2013

We will be sending him validation as soon as it is received , which is our normal procedure.

All our previous contact attempts went unanswered

Consumer

Response:

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: "just saying it's baseless" doesn't make it so ; ) Also, yes, they are saying they will send the bill - they also DID NOT give you date as to when it will be sent - and as per the original complaint the entire problem is that they have made mark on my credit but DO NOT have any idea as to the original bill - which, according to them, could be weeks and for all anyone knows could have been fully paid by insurance.

Review: I have asked this creditor to validate my debt with them on numerous occasions and they provide me with false documents. I have tried to come to agreement to pay a reduced amount just to get it removed because it is detrimental to my credit. I have had no success with either approach. These accounts are old need to just go away.Desired Settlement: I would like American Adjustment bureau to delete all lines associated with them from my credit.

Business

Response:

This gentleman contacted us on 02/27/14 and requested we validate the debts. He also sated that "I AM WILLING TO PAY 75.00 AS SETTLEMENT FOR THIS DEBT IN RETURN FOR YOUR AGREEMENT TO REMOVE ALL INFORMATION REGARDING THIS DEBT FROM THE CREDIT REPORTING AGENCIES. IF YOU AGREE TO THE TERMS, I WILL SEND CERTIFIED PAYMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF 75.00 PAYABLE TO AMERICAN ADJUSTMENT BUREAU IN EXCHANGE TO HAVE ALL INFORMATION RELATED TO THIS DEBT REMOVED FROM ALL OF MY CREDIT FILES"

We not agree

We sent him a copy of the charges on 02/27/14

Consumer

Response:

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: I do not accept what was given to me as validation. This debt is due to fall off very soon and I was trying to be amicable by offering an amount at all. I just really need to get this information removed and am not receiving any kind of flexibility from the collection agency, nor do I agree to the charges.

Sincerely,

Consumer

Response:

The address listed on the "verification" documents provided, is not an address that is associated with me or my credit reports. I do not find these bills to be accurate.

Business

Response:

Please note while we believe the debts to be valid, in the spirit of consumer service, they were closed with the credit bureau on Mar 26th 2014

Consumer

Response:

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: As of my most recent credit report on April 6, 2014, these debts are still reporting. However; I am aware that they may take up to 30 days to be removed.

Sincerely,

Review: I have been attempting to contact [redacted] at AAB. I am not receiving return phone calls. Well over two years ago I had received communication from them stating I owe $2204 to [redacted]. I have never been to this hospital. After some exchange of information via phone, it was discovered that I was not the person responsible for this bill. It was attributed to me in error. I was assured the problem would be rectified and that it would be removed from my credit report, as well as my husband's. It continues to appear on both of our credit reports as a civil judgement against us. This is negatively affecting our credit and was mentioned as a reason for credit denial for a mortgage loan, auto loans and other lines of credit.Desired Settlement: I would like this entry removed from both mine and my husband's credit reports. I would also like any action needed to be taken to remove it from the courthouse records. I would also request a letter stating that this was an error on their part and that this debt was indeed not my debt.

Response:

Hello

Review: Original debt of $640.45 was to [redacted]. Debt was transferred to American Adjustment Bureau before the remaining insurance adjustment was applied. The remaining balance was paid off by me directly with [redacted]. All information given to American Adjustment Bureau but still being harassed for the original $640.45. Please advise. Debt collector is insisting that I double pay my amount and re-pay what the insurance company had covered.

Product_Or_Service: Medical

Account_Number: DXXXXXXXX

Desired Settlement: Please need American Adjustment to double check with [redacted] to verify debt was paid. Stop the contacting me via email, phone, etc. Stop the threats to my credit rating.
