So today, my 9 year old son and I stopped by All Star Bike Shop, for his 9th birthday which is also today. We walked up all excited to buy him a new mountain bike for his birthday. He hopped on one of the 30 bikes that were on display outside. Sat on the bike to see of it was the right size, excited, and then pushed his legs on it no more than 5 feet into two empty parking spots next to the tent display, under my guidance right next to him. Then an employee comes storming out and yells at us and him (9years old) saying "hey he can't be riding a bike without a helmet, is that his bike!" My son and I were taken aback by this inappropriate behavior and quite frankly my son was scared. The associate then grabbed the bike from him and flung the kickstand down in a huff. I apologized, and told him he wasn't riding it, just pushed off on the ground to guage the size and that none of the bikes said sold or had any signage that we shouldn't try them out. I am still shocked by this horrible customer service, inappropriate behavior towards a customer and a 9 year old, who happened to cry on his birthday in the car after the interaction by this associate that obviously needs sensitivity and customer service training. This company should be ashamed of themselves........I left telling the associate that I will take my business elsewhere, his response was none and just walked back in the store. wow!
It is never the best thing to have to respond to a negative incident, especially when I did not hear or witness the event. I had received a call from the gentlemen regarding the matter. There is of course a response from those involved. Here is what I was told from the associate and another party.
The bike in question was a sold bike withe a sales receipt on the handlebars and the associate was trying to protect the sold bike and not allow a minor to ride without a helmet. It was relayed to me he was respectful in language and tone. Once again I cannot take a side as I wasn't involved and I do take negative comments very seriously and try to get both sides of the story.
All I can do is apologize and talk with the staff as to how to handle. There should be no excuses but the last 4 months of Covid has been a challenging time. Once again I apologize for the negative interaction.
