Last March I hired Adam Naranjo to narrate my fantasy fiction novel into a polished and publishable audiobook suitable for publication via Audible.com (ACX). The normal expected time for completion of an audiobook approx. 146,000 words in length is anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. This narrator took on other jobs (and completed them and even received praise for them) during the 13 months he dragged his feet and used multiple stall tactics rather than completing my project in a timely manner. I gave him multiple chances to follow through on his promise to provide the professionalism he bragged about when I hired him. Instead he continued to make promises he did not keep and set deadlines he did not make. I finally gave up after thirteen months of waiting and have requested my money back, as I have never received anything after all this time that is remotely publishable (it took him 13 months to only get through the first pass) and now must start over from scratch with someone else. Adam is refusing to reimburse me one penny, stating he did provide "work." Except the "work" he provided are raw files only that do not remotely come close to being a completed publishable audiobook I can use.
Note, I contacted Adam numerous times as this dragged out toward the end of last year, and numerous times through January and February of this year. I don't have the actual dates, but I complained numerous times and begged him to treat my book as a priority. He finally seemed to in the last week or so, but then he started telling me the errors I was still noticing in the files he sent me were only "my opinion" or imagined--not really there. At that point I fired him for not providing a finished product in a remotely reasonable amount of time AND for having a bad attitude toward me on top of it--and have since started over with a new reader.
