Initially I was referred to this insurance agency through my car dealership upon financing my vehicle back in October 2019. This company sent me an application for insurance with a company called ***. The application required a $610.00 down payment(first and last month of policy as I was told). I emailed this amount to ***(I assume the owner) and was told I would be set up on monthly payment with *** for $305.00 a month full coverage insurance. Upon receiving my policy in the mail a month later, *** indicated I was to pay the full year cost to them in the amount of over $4000.00. Obviously this was not something I could afford at the time, especially after I was told I was put on a monthly payment system. I phoned *** at A.D. MacEachern Insurance in which I explained the policy I received. He told me he would then cancel me with this company immediately and switch me to another who could do monthly payments. I was then told the new company would also need a down payment of $550.00 to apply for insurance. He informed me I would receive some form of refund from the first company from the initial $610.00 payment. Not long after this phone call, *** sends me a letter stating I was cancelled due to non-payment, when in fact the broker was suppose to cancel my policy on my behalf. I called *** again, he informed me this would be cleared up. It was not. A month later, today, I receive a letter in the mail from ***, stating I am past due an amount of $369.00 for time covered before cancellation. This is titled as a final notice, the first notice I ever received on this matter. I phoned the broker nearly 10 times today with no answer. Noone from the company returns my calls or emails. I was told I would be set up on monthly payments. Lie. I was told my policy would be cancelled on my behalf. Lie. I was told I would receive a refund from ***. Lie. I was told in the middle of December someone would phone me back. Lie. This company also neglected to inform me of a now past due amount of $369.
As per our discussion, I have been working with *** since the 3rd of January to rectify this with *** Insurance.
I spoke with her yesterday to confirm that she has received a refund cheque in the amount of $42.00 from *** Insurance as they cancelled the policy pro rata on the original quoted premium instead of short rating.
She thanked me for the work I did on her behalf.
You should now be able to close your case file now.
