This probably won't matter now because the gas company isn't affiliated with Revdex.com but we've been having quite a cold snap in California. I had the misfortune of moving in the middle of it. Upon realizing that the pilots on the oven and heater weren't lit, I contacted the gas company for an appointment which I couldn't get until mid-January.
But I had family coming in from out of town. Hoping that it would warm up a bit but it ended up just being colder. After trying to light the pilot ourselves, my son said he started smelling gas, and we quit. We tried again the next day, and the same thing. We couldn't get the pilot lit without smelling gas. That was when I called the gas company emergency line (last night).
They couldn't send a technician out but told us to open a window to get the gas smell out. Someone would be out in the morning. I called in the afternoon, when no one had contacted or come, and was told that they would be here by 8pm. I'm writing this at 8:57pm after calling a third time today. My family is now gone, staying somewhere where they have access to heat. I didn't go with them because I was going to stay here to wait for the technician. At this point, I'm still waiting - the best they could tell me was they're set to come today.
I'm old enough to remember the split up of the phone company so that no company had the monopoly, and that people would have a choice. Why could this not have happened with the gas company? Here, I have no choice but to deal with SoCalGas and it's poor customer service and their complete inability to track their technicians? I can track my son with my cell phone! I can send him a message and he can message me back. It's just that simple. SoCalGas doesn't have access to some similar technology?
