A Peaceful Beginning Daycare & Academy

I have a remaining balance of $245 for time billed to me after our children were removed from the daycare. The children never attended the time I am being billed for. I understand this to be standard within the industry and I am not at odds with the payment. The daycare however has stated that they will not release our tax information which documents how much we have paid with their identifying information thus preventing us from filing our taxes. I can't help but believe this is in violation of federal law as well as fair collection practice laws. My intent is to pay this facility, but I will not allow them to hold vital tax information needed until they receive collection. If they are attempting this with me, they are attempting this with others who may not know the law. Please help. Thank you.
