shoddy and unnecessary electrical work. poor attention to detail, failure to check work before completion.
2019 *** and *** contracted Better Pool to change the pool liner and the stairs at *** Rd, *** GA XXXXX.
During the first visit to assess the job, we agreed with Mr. to raise/ change the box outside the fence that connected to the pool light. Because of the additional and unnecessary job related to the pool light, we ended up incurring more than $1,800 dollars
According to your crew; in order to get the electric wiring back thru to the connection for the pool light, they needed to replace the elbow which led the crew to tell me the ONLY way to do that, was to cutout a section of cement under the diving board. This would not have been necessary, had the light not been pulled from the wall, which was not required in order to replace the liner. After all the additional and unnecessary work on the light, we were told by Better Pool that we had and electric issue and that an electrician needed to be called for that. We had a licensed electrical company come out and track down the cause of the initial light problem. Your Employee had stated "there isn't any power to the light"
There was power, the GFI was in need of resetting. The issue was that your crew put the light back together once the pool was filling up with water, already was up to and at the edge of the light housing, and with the improper replacement of the light allowed it to leak into the light housing, ruining the light housing and brand new LED light just purchased. As well as causing a potential electrical hazard as the light was compromised/shorted out. Had the GFI failed, anyone getting into the pool could have been electrocuted.
Had the light not been pulled out, no cutting into the concrete would have been required. So whatever was added to the bill to cover THAT, was also completely unnecessary.
The crew had no "conduit snake" to use to push or pull the electrical cord thru the conduit that was in place. This is a tool used by electricians, actual electricians, when running wire thru a short distance that is on the tight side or has bends in it. They were trying to use a vacuum to suck a lightweight string thru the conduit, in order to tie it to the electrical cord on the light. Water was filling up, light housing already had water above the edge, at the last minute I am told I need another screw for the housing. Nothing was checked IN ADVANCE.. nothing.
Being ill-equipped isn't our fault, pulling the light out without being told to do so, isn't our fault. Putting the light back in improperly, failing to clamp the seal, breaking the lip of the light housing, absolutely not our fault.
All of that was due to work being done that wasn't necessary, failing to TEST the light before even putting it back in, failing to PUT the light housing back together properly ( the clamp was not secured, the metal tongue on the lip of the light ring housing was bent/cracked ) all of which had to be replaced completely.
An electrician was called as well as a pool maintenance company which did the whole new light housing work.
We consider all of the below expenses we've incurred SOLELY due to the failure to re-install the light properly, secure the water tight seal on it properly ( which was brand new ), and even bother to test it properly before declaring " There isn't any power to the light", by what we can only assume is an unlicensed electrician.? If he is licensed, then he checked nothing with any kind of meter, or checked the wiring at all, just declared it "dead".
Unlicensed electrician doing the electrical work, with just "spare help with zero electrical training assisting.
We believe this is against City, State, or County Electrical safety codes.
We expect Better Pool to compensate us for this damage caused by their crew.
total costs incurred so far just over $1800.
we have receipts and photos.
we want, at this point, for A Better Pool to reimburse us for these added costs. simple as that. $1800.. we have receipts, water and sewer bill, repair bill, electrician bill, to back up our claim.

We were contacted by the complainant to renovate their pool which had not been in use for some time. A Better Pool LLC determined that the walk-in steps needed to be removed and replaced due to several cracks, liner replacement, as well as a complete machine mixed sand/portland bottom, wall foam, and new white goods. We also pressure tested the plumbing, replumbed the filter and changed the sand. The homeowner initially never requested we work on his light as he wanted to save money. We noted that the junction box was below grade and not to code and homeowner agreed to the box being replaced to the correct one. They style of light niche and pool light in their pool is an American brand product and is a wet niche; water surrounds the light to keep it cool therefore at no time would water need to be drained from the pool in order to work on it. There is also enough slack left in the line that the light can be put on the side of the pool and worked on if it needed to be opened. The complainant submitted pictures to us with his water drained past the wet niche and showing the light on the concrete further proving our point of the unnecessary removing of water. While trying to pull the light cord through the existing conduit there seemed to be an obstruction in the line, and it would not pull through. After showing this to the complainant we suggested we remove the diving board and cut a 2' x 2' square in the concrete and dig it out to see what the problem was so it could be corrected. Complainant agreed to our suggestion and we proceeded with the work. YES, the light does have to be pulled from the wall to change the liner, the ring goes over the liner, not behind it. The problem was the electrical line wasn't in conduit it was in 3/4" PVC pipe that had a 90 angle in it - therefore the line could not be snaked - which we did have; pictures were taken and we are still in possession of that PVC pipe. It is also frequent practice to try to vacuum the line instead of being invasive by cutting concrete. The correct fitting is a sweep 90 which we installed, and the light cord pushed freely through the conduit like it was designed. Pulling line through does not constitute electrical work - no true electrical work was ever performed, and we do have volt meters. The light itself was worked on by complainant, he purchased and changed the bulb, installed new gasket and sealed it himself with bolt and nut from his supply, not ours. We advised complainant that the light itself might not work. When we installed the light, again, we left a minimum of 3' of wire which is placed inside the niche, behind the light itself so it can be taken out and set on top of the concrete eliminating the need for draining any water out of the pool. We were not getting any electricity to the light at the junction box and complainant did not know where the power was and informed us he was also having issues with a storage building that was next to the pool so we advised for them to call an electrician to track down the issue. The leaky light housing is all on the complainant due to that being their work. We advised that he replace the entire light, but they wanted to save money by doing their own repair. A Better Pool LLC never took the light apart nor did we put it back together, we simply fed the light wire through the conduit and tightened the set screw that holds the light in. We also repaired concrete that we didn't damage in trying to appease this client. We had to jack hammer the steps out and they complained we cracked the concrete on the other side of the pool. We took photos of that as well that show grass growing in the crack and well as stains indicating this isn't newly cracked, but we repaired as good faith. When we replaced the liner, we used their existing liner track as it would have been VERY costly to cut all that out and replace not to mention it was not broken. However, because it is worn, liners will slip from the track in tiny amounts and can be easily pushed right back into place - this is a very common occurrence with any liner pool - it does not equal shoddy work. Also, when you unnecessarily drain water from a pool it places stress on the liner in its tracks and can cause the liner to become relaxed. The complainants would rarely come out, commonly not answer the door or calls, only wanted to communicate via email once they deemed these issues instead of having conversations with us.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
first off-LACK OF COMMUNICATION
Better Pool came and took out our pool liner.
then, when nobody showed up for days, we finally got a hold of them, they said " oh, Donnie is out of town for 2 weeks, so we wont be back until after that"
Never told us at anytime we were going to be put on "hold" right after removing the liner.
As for my not answering the door.
Nobody was home most of the time. Hard to answer the door. and when I WAS home, I asked Donnie AND his crew, if they needed ANYTHING.
I did this several times/several days.
Answer was no.
As for the pool siding- Better Pool at NO TIME COMMUNICATED this was or would be or could be an issue.
Not ONCE did they mention it could cause ANY kind of problem for the new liner.
So again, THEIR lack of communication.
Had we been at least informed, WE would have known what to expect, and made any decision at that time.
But, they failed to disclose this.
As for saying they didnt put the light back together.
Well, sorry, thats just FALSE.
Donnie himself asked me for the light clamp screw, so he could re-assemble the light and put it back together.
I got him a steel screw, he said it was too short, so I got another one. NOTHING was said after that.
HE AND HIS CREW then put the light back together, put it back into the pool wall, and FAILED to clamp it properly, allowing the like to leak, which shorted it out, causing this entire situation and added expense.
Period
And again, as for using a vacuum, didnt say that couldnt be done.
BUT, that was the ONLY means they had at their disposal to replace the electrical cord thru the conduit.
Had they HAD actual tools for when this isnt doable, and I am POSITIVE they have to have run into this exact issue at other times, just cutting up the concrete at the owners expense is a ridiculous option, but a nice way to pad the bill unnecessarily.
As for rarely coming out of the house.
Were WE expected to TELL Better Pool and its crew HOW to do its job ?? No questions were asked of us, as for contacting via email, we had no choice when the crew would LEAVE without even knocking on the door.
we had no choice. so again, a pure falsehood on their part.
we stand 100% by our claim that their POOR Workmanship and attention to detail is the ONLY reason we are complaining at all.
We asked if they would simply reimburse us for the expenses incurred, they replied " talk to our attorney"
so over and over, the LACK of communication is on their end, not ours.
We have emails stating as much, as well as phone conversations.
We werent in charge of their crew. we had no REASON to be "standing around the pool" all day while they worked.
We DID go out and observe, NUMEROUS TIMES, when we were home.
BUT, we told Better Pools UPFRONT, we BOTH worked late, and would NOT be home most of the day.
THEY REPLIED THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM.
There is a pattern of failed communication on their part, not ours, over and over.
Had they simply re-installed the light properly, we would never have had to even talk to them again.
this is entirely on THEIR workmanship "heads", or lack their of.
We submit they still owe us some $1600, as we again only ask for our expenses at this time.
and that Number was revised DOWN, as it included part of the previous months water bill, and WE arent asking for more than we incurred, AT THIS TIME.
We disagree with our company being the ones who put the light back together, it was just set by us. The customer wanted to save money instead of having us work on the light. These were the customers decision. Hence not shoddy work but a customer trying to save money with short cuts and this is how they can end badly. The customer can continue to refuse our responses but they will not change.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
and again, for the 3rd time now ? A Better Pool just goes about "making stuff up".
We didnt pull the light out of the wall, they did. We were not told they were pulling the light out, they only said that the connection to the light, had to be replaced-where it connects from the power to the pool, behind the pool- DOnnie said it had to be replaced.
We didnt put the light back together, we didnt re-install it, we didnt fail to tighten the set screw down properly, we didnt break the lip on the wall opening for the light.
all of that, was done by this crew..
thats just the facts. we had nothing to do, with re-installing the light.
the seal was brand new, and purchased from the pool company who serviced this pool before.
Donnie was in charge of putting this light back together, he and his crew were in charge of putting it back into the wall, and reconnecting the cord.
I will say again, had they simply had proper tools, namely, a conduit snake, no extra big HOLE would have to have been cut out of our concrete, at Extra expense to us, to get the electrical cord back thru the wall.
they didnt test anything, only "declared" no power was going to the light.
no Licensed electrician did any of the work.
no licensed electrician checked or tested anything, only this Crew/Donnie, declared " no power" was getting to the light which a licensed electrician we hired, proved was false.
their denials to take responsibility is the only running theme here.
they also failed to touch on their dumping of material, I guess the wall cement, in our woods-without permission.
WE tried to help them out, with leftover soil, by saying they could dump it in some low spots in our front yard.
I DIDNT say it was OK to put in huge clumps of broken concrete and spread THAT in our front yard.
which they did. Nice way to ruin a brand new $2000 lawn mower. I picked up close to a half a big wheelbarrow full of broken concrete pieces, some, bigger than a softball.
all in all, nothing A Better Pool has said is accurate or honest.
they wont take responsibility, and keep trying to come up with yet ANOTHER new excuse, on how THEIR POOR WORK is OUR FAULT.
They tried to blame US for a "lack of communication". first lie. we had to constantly get a hold of THEM, to find out when anything was being done.
They said we didnt "come out" of the house, another lie, as every day they were there, we talked to them. Were we supposed to "hold their hand" and tell them HOW to do their job ? thats basically one of their complaints, we didnt oversee this job for them. its in one of their first replies to our complaint.
we shouldnt have had to do ANYTHING, other than tell them they can come work on the pool.
but we checked with them, offered refreshments, use of our bathroom, every day.
but WE had to contact them to find out about delays in even showing up in the first place.
sorry, this mess is their entire doing. We would have LOVED to have just had the job done, and get on with things.
they SCREWED up the light installation, and WE had to pay out about $1600 in repairs, replacement chemicals, and replacement light fixture, electrician costs.
every DOLLAR of that is one them..
Period.
enough already... either accept you screwed up, or stop lying about what you want to SAY you did or didnt do, vs what you actually DID do..
