Good day: I was referred to your organization thru a friend and fellow pet owner with hopes that someone with in your field can help or point me in the right direction with the following. I recently took my dog for an emergency visit to a new Vet and was grossly overcharged for medications and services; aside from the awful customer service received and filthy facilities (which I will not elaborate on for risk of this email being extremely longer) I was charged $45 for the antibiotic (Clavamox) and $35 for three tiny syringes (not a bottle) containing Metacam; I did some research and found the listed price for these medications thru any similar Vet or medical supplier/pharmacy is much less. During the visit I refused to purchase the medication there and asked for a written prescription because of pricing and, for his lack of knowledge about my dogs symptoms, but was told by him that if I refused treatment I will be "forced" to sign a letter saying that I refused treatment and will be liable if "something" were to happen to my dog (which he assured me would) I found this to be very disturbing so I purchased the medication only to realize later how unfair thouse prices were. I called and asked why I was overcharged and not given what I paid for in full, but was hung up on, this experience has left me shaken, distraught and angry. I would like to know if this is common practice; otherwise please advise me on any actions that can reprimand this vet; I will also reach out to the ASPCA, my local city councilman and local news. Please note: I researched this office and vetinarian online before taking my dog there and found similar complaints but, because of the severity of my emergency and time restraint I had no other options.
