A&A Towing picked up my car from a visitor parking spot at 1:00 a.m. November 18, 2019. (There was a 3 day visitor parking limited of which I was unaware). When I went outside to see what the two men were doing with my car, they said they would unhook my car if I paid them $185 in cash. The next morning I went to pay A&A Towing and get my car released. The charge was $160; $135 for towing and $25 for after hours. When I spoke to A&A, and asked about the charge discrepancy, he told me that he would charge me the $185 that the night towing men wanted, if I liked. My car was in good shape, but the metal hitch bike rack on the back of my car was totally destroyed. The metal post attaching the rack to the hitch was nearly broken completely off. The bars that hold the bikes were bent, one rail was broken off. Mr. A&A denied any responsibility. The lady who released my car told me I could file a complaint, but I still needed to pay the towing fee.
I paid the $160 fee, went home and gathered information about replacing the bike rack, had a police officer come and verify damage, took several photos, and took my car to a Subaru dealer to have the broken bike rack removed. The rack was so damaged, and jammed into the hitch, that they had to break it apart, then oil the inside of the hitch to try to get the jammed metal post out. The combined cost for replacing the bike rack, and removal of the ruined rack is $306.00. When I called A&A to discuss options for the damage, and ask how to submit a damage report, Mr. A&A said he wasn't responsible for the damage, would not tell me how to submit a claim, and told me he didn't believe me, and essentially spent the call talking over me and denying any responsibility. I feel that this business does not respect the right of their 'clients' to register a damage complaint and receive restitution for the mishandling of expensive property.
