This stops just short of an official complaint, but this is a comment about the business owners shoddy manners and business practices.
After the old garage door motor broke down, my landlord agreed to have it replaced sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. When the green light was given, it was arranged that a technician would come out before 4pm.
Two hours afterwards, after 2 calls asking where the vendor was?, a young man finally showed up - harassed looking, with no apology. I made a comment about his tardiness, and his response was that it wasn't his fault that he was late. I was shocked. My response was - "well you had better get to work then, and I'll take this up with your boss".
About two hours later, the garage door motor had been replaced, new sensors installed and garage open/close switch had been swapped out. Everything seemed to be working fine - and I was prepared to overlook the tardiness, and poor attitude.
Immediately following the install, the doors started acting up. In the morning only, the sunlight hit one of the sensors full on, and this caused the closing door to trip half way down, and automatically come up again. This would continue until the sun moved behind the roofline, and the sensor was in shadow.
I explained the problem to my landlord, who then called the owner. After about a week, the business owner came out, and rather rudely listened to my complaint. It was as if I was the guilty party - and he was doing me a favor - there was no apology, no customer service ethic. He did confirm that the sensor could be acting up due to the sunlight, and taped an empty toilet-paper roll over the affected sensor. I was somewhat puzzled at this low-tech, somewhat tacky solution, but didn't say anything. He said that the company that made the garage doors made bespoke sensor covers for $15. For the life of me, I didn't know why he hadn't offered to put these on, having driven over an hour in the first place, my first thought would have been to avoid coming out to attend to further problems, just to save on gas, alone.
Well, the toilet paper roll didn't work - the garage doors kept on tripping at when the sun shined on them. The only recourse was to wait till later on in the afternoon when the sensors were in shade, to shut the garage door, or else stand against the sensor and the sunlight, to block the sun and force the doors to close.
I recorded the fault, and sent the video to my landlord who informed to the business owner. Several weeks went by, and there was no sign of him. Then, late last week, I got a banging on my door. I had just undergone surgery, and was bed-bound, but managed to get to the door. I opened it and saw that the business owner had finally turned up. I had asked him why he hadn't called to make an appointment and he said "I've called you twice and left a message". I checked my phone and he had called, but 7 minutes prior. Hardly enough time to schedule an appointment! but I let him in.
He asked me in a rather irritated voice what the problem was - i.e. that there was no fault with the doors as he was testing them. I told him that there wouldn't be a fault, because he had turned up at 2pm, after the sun was no longer hitting the sensor. I told him that I had recorded the fault. He actually demanded to see the video. I had to hobble back into the house, get my phone, hobble out again and show him. By this time I was fuming mad. I shouted at him: "Now you have your proof. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT". And I left the garage.
5 minutes later, he knocked on the service door, and told me that he had raised the sensor by a few inches. I was astonished, once again, that he wouldn't consider putting the bespoke sensor guards, with all the problems I was having. Notwithstanding, he left. I didn't even bother to thank him for coming out, he left such a poor and unprofessional impression. So far, the doors are finally working without issue, but I would NEVER recommend this person to do work for me, or any member of my family, or any of my clients. Apart from the fact I had to wait weeks for him to turn up, when he did, his attitude was awful, sour, unapologetic, and downright rude.
I'm only giving his company a "1" because the doors are finally working.

The contractor did not follow through with all the appropriate permits with the City of Phoenix for Garage Remodel. This was discovered by the home owner after receiving a letter from the city on 12/13/12 regarding expiration of permit. The letter clearly states "Be advised that work perfomred without benefit of inspections is illegal and subject to criminal and/or civil citation" and " A construction project may be considered complete only after obtaining final inspection approval from each pertinent discipline".

The contractor verbally communicated to the home owner that documentation would be received from the City a few weeks after completion of the project on 07/28/12. Such documentation has never been received.
