Very shady and immoral company. They put extra phone lines on our account without us asking to. Then when we tried to have these lines removed they forced a cancellation fee that was the cost of the full contract.
They changed their terms and conditions to auto enroll companies for two years without notification. After having an account with them for over 5 years and trying to cancel due to difficulties in financing from Covid related issues, the company forced a cancellation fee that cost the value of a full contract again (that they had "auto renewed" for two years).
Additionally, they hide a lot of immoral clauses in their terms and conditions. I don't say this lightly, I understand the need for businesses to have terms and conditions, but they are doing so in a predatory manner.
Further looking into the company now that we are canceling our account with them, I see they have two active class action lawsuits against them. This is an incredibly shady business. I highly recommend going elsewhere. If you choose to do business with them, do read the terms and conditions in detail and save documentation of them for your company records and use in potential class action lawsuits.
TOTAL NIGHTMARE- FRAUDULANT! I just tried to cancel my account due to Covid 19 related hardships with my small business. I will be very objective with my account regarding the cancelation experience. They want to charge around $550 to cancel. 8X8 says I have an "annual contract"- I never signed up for anything with a contract- NEVER! Actually the opposite- one of the top reasons I signed up with 8x8 in the first place was because its monthly (as most phone providers are).
I started by calling 8x8 to cancel, as they do not provide a place to do it in the online account. I was transfered 3 times before being told I would have to pay a $550 early cancelation fee. First (the third person I had been transfered to) said "oh it looks like we need a 30 day notice to cancel your account- I said ok no problem. Then 8x8 billing rep says "oh no actually you on a year contract and that will be $550 for early cancelation. I was in shock- as this immediately sounded like fraud, extortion, and total abuse- not to mention a total lie. I never have signed or agreed to any contract. I am monthly- I have been with them for 3 years. I was never even offered a contract. I have been over paying with 8x8. The few times I have had to speak with their billing department over the years has always been unprofessional and awful (all calls are recorded and can be referenced). I never guessed canceling for financial hardships during covid would turn into this. I have now been told another department will reach out to me regarding "covid cancelations"- as I refused to accept what this 8x8 person was telling me.
It was truly awful;. I will be contacting my attorney about this- for whatever its worth.
I was so excited in the beginning; as I was coming from landlines at my business- and we had just been hooked up to municipal fiber internet. I was so excited about VOIP and 8x8 is where I landed with enthusiasm. 8x8 reminds you of the old days when vicious, lying, predators, that seek to take advantage of good people during though times existed- not going to happen! I can't believe I read all the peoples experiences below that have had the same experience canceling- what gets me the most is all the different cancellation amounts.... where are they coming up with these number? $550 for me and $1000 for another- sounds like fraud- big time!!! Next task- MY LAWYER!
Canceling my account was next to impossible and I have never experienced anything so incredibly difficult in my life. It reminds me of the AOL days when they made it impossible to cancel (http://www.nbcnews.com/id/XXXXXXXX/ns/business-cnbc_tv/t/how-hard-can-it-be-can...⇄ so just beware!
Unauthorized renewal of contract due to inability to provide necessary service. In addition they will not remove my credit card from billing I was unable to get my phone service to work properly after many attempts.
After a couple months of not getting it to work they said the tech was wrong and not possible. I then told them I wanted to cancel my service contract. I was told I could only cancel one line per 30 days. Multiple IT visits, MULTIPLE missed calls- and dropped calls, which as a physician is not OK.
Calling back- was told the 30 day thing is not true & I will again owe multiple fees for a contract that I have NEVER SIGNED.
When I called to cancel they told me the contract renewed so it was no longer month to month and I owe an undetermined amount of money.
I asked them to look back in the records for the recording and they said they would get back to me.
They never called back.
I asked for a manager and they refused to let me talk to a manager. It is virtually impossible to understand the various accents, especially with my poor service.
I asked for a corporate number to call and they would not give it to me. I then asked to remove my credit card information and they said they could not.
I would like my service cancelled without a cancellation fee and my credit card removed from the database.
I was with this company for three years, switching over from Ring. They back end is okay but not great. I decided to switch to Nextiva as their dashboard was better and overall the cost was as well.
I was not notified of tremendous cancellation fees of 1500! This is without service and is unreal. They said I was under some auto-renew contract but I never signed a contract. A junior level employee made the transfer. Got a nasty note that I'll owe this money in two weeks (for services not even rendered mind you)
Not sure this will hold up in court but I am in no way going to pay this and will fight this everywhere I can. It is a very poor practice and I warn all small business owners of this "auto-renew" of a contract and not getting the appropriate officers who are legally able to sign contracts. Terrible company.
After overpaying for nearly 10 years of phone service I decided to finally switch and cut my bill in half with a competitor. When I first tried to cancel I was told that I had to give them 30 days notice so they could charge me another month of fees for a phone line that was already disconnected. I was also told that I would owe them for 6 more months of service on top of the 30 days notice. While I wasn't happy about having to pay another $73 for the 30 days notice I was looking forward to the monthly saving going forward but getting charged nearly $400 for a cancellation fee is criminal after overpaying for subpar service for 10 years.
If you're considering 8X8 services do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Their fees are out of control their service is barely adequate, their customer service will bounce your around until your line is disconnected and in the end they will charge you a fee that you were lied to about and told you didn't owe after the first 12 months.
My experience with the phone service of 8x8 was fine until I moved to a new office and the person that handles my phones switched me to another company. He asked me if I was under contract. I had the purchased my equipment and I had the service for many years so I made the mistake of assuming that I was not under a contract. Deep in the 8x8 T&C's they state that you automatically renew each year. It is an obvious trick and a completely dishonest practice.
I am in the middle of trying to cancel my 8x8 contract now. You can not call the cancellation department directly. They make it extremely difficult to talk to anyone to cancel. After several calls I was able to talk to "Mike" and he told me my cancellation charges were $1000! I complained and he said that I could talk to my salesperson, My. She and I did not get along at all and I resigned to pay the fee and get away from this company.
I did not hear anything from 8x8 for a few days and then I called again. It took 5 more calls and 2 weeks to get them to respond to my desire to cancel. I asked for them to put everything in writing and they sent me the cancellation fees in an email and now they want $2700!
I complained again in a email to Michael and he told me I have to speak to My. I have asked why the $1000 went away, for a copy of my signed T&C's, and for a different sales person.
I will follow up if I hear from them again.
Absolutely horrible service! Not only did they not fix anything in our system they made it worse, we had payed up for the service for the entire month and thy just decide to cut our service for literally no reason on Nov 21st effectively shutting down our business for more the entire day. All of our numbers no longer worked, all of our ring groups were deleted, all of our associate numbers that are supposed to be called and routed to my sales floor were also deleted or disconnected, not of our transfers worked, and then they proceeded to delete more stuff in their vain attempt to fix anything. They wasted a total of 7 hours of my day yesterday putting me on hold for 45 minutes to get back on to tell me their still going to put me on hold before they switch me to another department that doesn't know what their doing. Then lets not forget as you've already been on the phone they try to get you to hang up saying they will call in 5 minutes then they never call so then I have to call then back and jump through hoops all for nothing. Then they hang up on you after a while of being on hold. Then if thats not bad enough, at the end of wasting a 3rd day in a row they go ahead and tell me they will have their " tier 2 team" call me back and fix it, which they only made things worse. They hardly speak English and just keep saying sorry and trying to get me off the phone as if thats what their trained to do. Whatever you do, stay away from these guys.
Sneaky, dishonest billing practices.
Watch out for a whopping cancellation fee at the conclusion of your service. In our case, my company was a customer of 8x8 for almost 8 years. When we called to cancel service, they attempted to *** a nearly $400 cancellation fee and argued that we were on an "Auto-renew" Annual contract and that we owed the balance of the year before they would close our account. HA! What a bunch of scammers.
