I went to 701 Performance in Mandan, ND to have my diesel motor in my pickup "bulletproofed" to prevent future problems. I made it 1400 miles after they had made changes to my engine, only to have more problems with my pickup performing correctly. I went to my local diesel garage with my pickup to discover that 701 Performance had not did proper steps to installing these bulletproofing parts to the engine. My local mechanic that I had to pay to do work on my pickup had discovered dirt in the oil filter, which caused my pickup to not operate. After paying my local mechanic to repair the damage caused by 701 Performance, my pickup is operating correctly as it should.
I have attempted to contact 701 Performance multiple times about resolving this issue. They had asked me to send them the oil filter, which I obliged. 701 Performance said they would have it sent off and tested. I have asked for the results of said test and have not received a response. I even sent them a copy of the bill that I received from the local mechanic, in hopes that we could resolve our issue. I still attempt to resolve my issues with 701 Performance but they are not cooperating.
Bulletproofing” is a term used for replacing many parts on the engine that are prone to failure. The proposed fixes some of the most common issues such blown head gaskets but does not address anything in the lower rotating assembly. All the work performed was on the top end of the engine. This term could be misleading, it does not mean the engine is indestructible, or will never have an issue in the future.
The customer stated that all the work performed here in our shop had to be redone by another facility. After looking at the invoice provided it is clear the issue at hand was the oil pressure regulator, also known as the relief, being stuck open. Failure of this relief valve is not uncommon with these engines. There is no relation between the work performed here and the relief sticking. The most common reason for the relief valve sticking in the 6.0-liter engine is from metal debris shed from the cam and lifters. There are many theories as to why the engines do this, such as oil starvation, or metallic failure, or etc. The metal partials then get caught in the oil relief and scores the front cover. Lifter and camshaft replacement require the engine to be removed from the truck. 2003-2004 trucks are most prone to this issue and with the mileage being around the 150,000 it is not uncommon.
Also, after reviewing the invoice you can see the work performed at our facility was not redone. The front cover replacement is a 10hr job and does not require removing the heads. The invoice is for 12 hrs, reflecting front cover replacement, and not a top end overhaul. I will attach photos of the oil relief location so it can be referenced. We do not feel as though any compensation is necessary, although we are sorry to hear you are having issues with this vehicle.
I am rejecting this response because:
My complaint is to address the facility and workers at 701 Performance were not clean in the event of redoing my studs and head gaskets. It is clear that they are unclean since dirt, that can transfer down to the relief valve due to gravity were in my oil filter. A filter that I sent to 701 Performance to have tested at Tyler Tharp's request (owner of 701 Performance), the results of the test that I have asked for multiple times, yet have not yet received the results.
Everything that had to be done at the second facility, as seen on the invoice sent to 701 Performance (as requested), was due to dirt being dropped through the top of the motor at 701 Performance. The mechanic at the second facility had to perform the work since the valve was stuck open due to dirt sinking down into oil system of the motor.
