Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2015/07/14) */
3ZERO3 Motorsports operates an online eCommerce store that specializes in the sale and consultation of aftermarket and performance parts for Audi, Porsche, BMW and VW. With over 5000 part numbers online from 50+ manufacturers the items that...
enter and leave the market are often impossible to keep track of.
In the case of the purchase in question, the part this client ordered unassisted through the online store was no longer available. It had been superseded by a new part number and a new price point. This happens often in this industry as manufacturers stop making parts for older cars.
Once this was realized the client was contacted and made aware of the situation. We talked on the phone for a good long while. We were unable to process the order as is, because the retail of the old part number was below our cost. We offered to meet the client in the middle, collect 50% of the difference between what he initially paid and what current retail was, but he declined.
He sited other websites, which were also advertising the old part number.
We believed offering him a below retail cost on the new correct part number (which unfortunately was more expensive then he paid) was a fair compromise for our pricing mistake. But again, the client did not go for this option.
The client was never officially charged for this product as the order was never processed. After multiple conversations with the eCommerce Director and business Owner, the order was canceled and no money was charged to the client.
Thank you for reading this.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2015/07/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The on-line business advertised a current part that is still in production at the manufacturer, processed the order on-line through the discount website and processed the charge to my credit card.
They called a few days later saying they wanted an additional 50% more than I had already paid for the exact same part. The reason given was because the manufacturer's suggested retail price had increased since they last updated their on-line wholesale prices. This is for a current production exact manufacturer in-house part number with no changes to the part.
They tried to justify the additional 50% charge by stating the suggested retail price had gone up and that the 50% increase was less than suggested retail even though this is through a wholesale on-line parts business.
