Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/10/15) */
We here at valley view roofing did indeed start to remove the incorrect roof as stated. Upon realizing this we contacted the homeowners and they then were given the option to pick a color of shingle. They picked black. They then were informed...

that they would get the same warranty that any paying consumer would receive from us. At that point everything was fine. A couple weeks go by and I got a call from them stating their roof leaked. We aimmediately went to tract the problem. They seemed to think it was the chimney. I didn't think so because the drops of water was not on the upstairs ceiling by the fireplace there. We sealed the around the chimney to see if that solved the problem. I told the home owner that I first needed to find the leak before a lot of repairs were done. I then told him if it leaked there again we would replace the entire back section of the roof. We didn't here anything else from them until there lawyer contacted us and demanded we pay a different roofing company of there choice. We then told them we would be more than happy to fix the problem but they refuse to let us. We then asked them to get three estimates on the roof repair and they refused that also. Trust me we our Over $9,000.00 on this mistake already and want to resolve it. We would be happy to Set a time to make the repairs or get three estimates.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/10/16) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The problem has not been resolved because Valley View sealed around the chimney using only caulk after telling us they had replaced flashing and fixed the problem permanently (which was not the case). We have had consultations from multiple roofing companies who have said this is only a temporary fix and will lead to future leaks. We need the chimney area to be re-done properly and payment for indoor repairs and lawyer's fees in addition to the original paperwork the company should have provided us. We contacted a moisture detection company who told us the chimney was the most likely source of the leak (which we told to Valley View). Since then, this was confirmed by another roofing company who went in the attic and was able to see the wet wood and leaking around the chimney area that leaked down onto our basement ceiling getting more wood, ceiling areas, and the carpet wet and damaged. We are afraid to allow Valley View to make the needed repairs because they were dishonest about the work they did around the chimney and have not acknowledged our request for them to reimburse us for the indoor repairs. Their work was also clearly a temporary fix to the problem. We feel like they may try to take advantage of us again with a quick fix, and we need to know that we won't have to deal with a leaky roof in the future. We feel like we gave them multiple opportunities to make this right, and they didn't. It was never our desire to get a lawyer; we felt like we were forced into this situation. Valley View has refused to settle with the lawyer for the terms we stated before, and we are now in a situation to seek further litigation when we just want a proper resolution to the problem. We don't want to worry about a leaky roof, we want our basement ceiling repaired, and we want the paperwork regarding the materials, workmanship, warranties, guarantees, etc.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2015/10/21) */
When Mr. [redacted] first let us know about the leak, we put Geoseal around the back of the chimney. We stated to Mr. [redacted], we needed to do this to find out where exactly the leak was coming from. The very next rain, we called Mr. [redacted] to see if there was still a leak. We got his voicemail, left a message and never heard back from him. We assumed the leak was fixed until we received a call from his lawyer. The lawyer stated that another roofing company suggested building a cricket on the back of the chimney, the cost would be $650.00, and our company would be released from providing any warranty. The lawyer also stated he would provide 3 estimates for the roof. We did agree to this, when we received a letter from the lawyer, there were not 3 estimates, only 1 for the roof and 1 for the ceiling tiles, the total cost went from $650 to $2500 and they wanted us to still warranty the roof. We cannot warranty a roof another company has done maintenance and/or repairs on. The estimate we were sent was to pay for new Hardy Board siding up and down the chimney, which is not part of the roof. Mr. [redacted] had told us that one drop ceiling tile that costs about $3-4 was damaged and the estimate for that was approximately $220. We offered $1250.00 to settle this, the lawyer was not happy with this resolution and stated that he would leave bad reviews all over the Internet and contact the Attorney General, at this point we stopped trying to work on a resolution as their lawyer became threatening over the phone. We are more than happy to fix the problem, but their lawyer said that we are no longer allowed to contact the [redacted]'s. We would be happy to pay [redacted] Home Inspections, a well known company in Columbia to do a roof inspection and make any repairs they think is necessary and then provide our full warranty.
