Review: For two years in a row, I have applied to the University of the District of Columbia Community College, in an effort to take one class as a nondegree student. I need this class for a program I'm applying for at another school. I paid the $35 application fee, filled out all the paperwork, and sent my transcripts in, and I have never received an admissions decision. When I call, no one answers and I have to leave a voicemail. And then the voicemail system tells me that the mailbox is full and that I cannot leave a message.
I have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree already. I’ve had a frankly awful time getting any sort of support from UDC’s office of admissions, after months of unreturned phone messages and evidently ignored e-mails. After they failed to respond to my fall 2013 admissions application, I asked them to update my application for the fall 2014 semester. The last e-mail I received stated that once my admissions update form for the fall 2014 semester was received, logged, and assigned to a processor, I could prepare to register by contacting an adviser. Despite having submitted an update form to seek admission for the fall 2014 semester, no one has responded to let me know that the form was received, or logged, or assigned to a processor—and class started in late August. Whenever I try to contact admissions, I get an auto-reply message and am told that they are too busy to respond. I do understand this, but it is nevertheless frustrating—especially after having tried two years in a row to get them to acknowledge me. When I contacted the appropriate admissions counselor, she said she would be happy to help me. She asked me to forward her all my e-mail correspondence with admissions and she would figure everything out. She never got back to me and now will not return my e-mails or calls. I've also tried to contact the most senior member of the admissions office, the assistant provost of enrollment, but he has not responded to my e-mails. His voicemail box is also full, and he does not answer the phone. I've tried calling several people in the admissions office, and on one's voicemail will let me leave a message. The system says to press 0 for assistance, and when I did that, a message said, "You have reached a nonworking DC number. Please try again."
I have a record of all my correspondence with them and will be happy to share it with you if it would help.Desired Settlement: Not being able to get a straight answer from UDC is maddening. I'm so frustrated now that all I want is my $35 admissions fee back. I completed my paperwork and sent my transcripts and paid my fee, and they have never fulfilled their obligation to give me an admissions decision. I am more than happy to take my business elsewhere, but I am sad that the university in my own state is so unreliable and unprofessional.
