I went to my gynecologist because I had an ovarian cyst that rupturedWe tried to get to the source of the problem, and I asked for a hormone testQuest Diagnostics ended up testing for a general health panel ($243), a lipid panel ($53), a bilirubin direct ($20), Vitamin D ($241), Vitamin B($115), Folate ($127), GGT ($29), Fructosamine ($60), FSH ($135), LH ($135), Hemoglobin ($74), Iron ($26), LD ($24), Phosphorus ($19), Prolactin ($166), T($150), and Uric Acid ($18)The vast majority of those tests have NOTHING to do with hormone levelsThe total? $With my insurance, I "only" had to pay $194, which is still no small numberI also once had a doctor send basic, routine STD screenings to Quest Diagnostics and came back with a $billThey over test and overpriceIt is insane how much this all costs, and it's a scamIf you don't pay the bill within a month, they also start calling and leaving voicemails several times a weekI don't care what illness I have, next time I will refuse tests under all circumstances because it is outrageous and abusive towards sick people — and even people who are in good health!
I visited doctor [redacted] at [redacted] in September. I was told on the phone and at point of sale that the cost of my appointment would be $600. During my appointment I had blood drawn and was not told it would cost additional or would be out of insurance, I also do not believe I authorized any charge or signed anything approving Quest Diagnostics to charge me in addition to my appointment with [redacted] However, I just received a bill from Quest Diagnostics for $1,077.63. I was never presented with the cost and do not believe I signed anything, so this bill was a major surprise. I called [redacted] office and was told it should be covered by my insurance and that quest should not be billing me. ( [redacted] office also has my insurance information). On January 5, I had a series of blood and urine tests at a Quest Diagnostics Washington, D.Claboratory location When I arrived the office, they asked for my insurance information My insurance coverage is with GEHA (for federal employees only) and I have a Quest card issued from GEHA GEHA pays for 100% of all Quest charges, at rates that are negotiated with GEHA The desk clerk took my card and obtained the necessary information from it On January 18, I received an invoice for nearly $1,stating that Quest could not submit the required information to my insurance company because they did not have it I was indeed taken aback, obviously, because they had that information In addition , the same thing happened last June when I had testing at that Quest laboratory location I received a bill for the full amount of the test costs, containing the same statement that Quest didn't have insurance information that I provided them with at the time the tests were administered and hence could not submit to insurance I was on the phone with them several times That time it took months for them to stop billing me, even though they knew GEHA would be payingWhen I filled out a complaint on their website, I got a response from a Ms [redacted] e, asking that I call her to discuss When I called, she then told me they would put the bill on hold for days, and if they didn't receive payment from GEHA by then, they have to bill me again because that is the maximum 'hold' possible What was she talking about? They bill only every days, so there is no 'hold' in the first place I told MsL [redacted] that I did not want to see another bill from Quest because they would be paid by GEHA and they knew that already Ms [redacted] e even asked me if I gave the local lab my insurance information, as that would have been my fault; then she inquired if the person at the desk wrote down the information from the card I handed her? Outrageous Does anyone think for a minute that this lab would administer $1,worth of tests without knowing insurance was available and taking down the information from the insurance card? Fortunately, we have insurance and Quest will be reimbursed probably about $for these tests Those who don’t have the insurance will likely have to pay the $1,before the first syringe is inserted to draw bloodStill not quite having figured things out, I asked Ms [redacted] e whom to call at the test location to find out what went wrong Ms [redacted] e then told me to talk to the manager at the lab When I spoke to the lab, the responder stated there was no manager at the office and he provided me with a number in Virginia to call about complaints along with that person's name Then I realized nothing went wrong at the laboratory location Those employees have nothing to do with billing, as Ms [redacted] e had indeed indicated I had asked Ms [redacted] e to let me speak with her supervisor and she said that person would call when she freed up I have received no call and it has been more than hoursAt this point, it occurs to me, based on the complaints set forth on this Revdex.com site, that Quest Diagnostics' patient billing practices need to be cleaned up and that this company will not do so voluntarily unless required by some governmental authority or pursuant to enforcement by insurance companies of their agreements with Quest I am proceeding to see that this occurs and feel, as a lawyer, that I am particularly qualified to do so, as I can pretty much determine one or more reasons why their billing procedures are set up to do this One experience like this (last June) was enough; twice is way over the limit but I'm thankful that it happened a second time so that I can do my part in putting a stop to it, for good
I have an issue with Quest Diagnostics honesty policiesI went to their lab, by my own mistake, for routine (not an emergency in any way) blood workHowever the personel at Quest failed to point out to me that I was at the wrong labTherefore something that would have cost me $in my network, now costs me $
I specifically asked about my insurance and was reassured "oh honey we take all insurance." Well they failed to point out to me at the top of my lab report said a different lab
I understand that I made a mistake by going to Quest instead of the lab listed on the top of my lab order, but through their training practices I feel I was misled
I called and tried to rectify the situation, however was not helped in anyway to lower this unnecessary bill
