Review: I brought my car into get the shocks and shock towers replaced on both side on 6/13/14. I was charged $558.35 the repair came with a one year warranty. Before the warranty expired I came in complaining about the right side was still doing the same thing it was looked at and I was told it was fine. Fast forward to the present time I went back in and was told it's my right shock tower. That was what they replaced! And the charge to replace it will be $160.00 how so when I came back complaining way before my warranty expired and they said that wasn't the problem.Desired Settlement: I feel they should repair the issue at no charge because I came back complaining about the same issue that was supposed to have been fixed by them. Before my warranty expired and was told it wasn't the issue now it is? They never repaired the problem in the first place. The right side was the problem anyway they had me repair both side telling that was the right thing to do!

Review: They did something wrong in the requested repair service. They called me back the next morning to bring my car in and they claim they made no mistake.

Brought a vehicle in to change valve cover gasket and oil change. Car left shop running poorly. Oil light came on, and vehicle was running real poorly. Took car home, with plans on having them check it out. They called me in the morning (before I had a chance to call them) asking us to bring car in (they said they left something off- maybe a grommet). Brought car back, they had it for @4 hours and said there was nothing missing- yet they removed the valve cover again. Car was running a little better, but engine light came on. They insisted that they did nothing wrong the first time and lied about doing anything the second time car was brought in. I caught them in three different lies about our situation. All we wanted was the truth and to have them clear the check engine light, and check the spark plugs. research on line showed that the rough engine could have been caused by oil fouled spark plugs (this could be done if gasket wasn't put back on, or if no sealant was used to hold gasket in place (in other words leaking oil). Owner of shop got immediately irate, accusing us of trying to get free service, and called us cheap (we supplied our own valve cover gasket). he also said that the check engine light may have been on when car was brought in (it wasn't). Desired Settlement: Restitution for repairs needed due to South City's negligence.

Business' Initial Response

Customer came in for a valve cover gasket job and customer has his own part. Customer later then called back and requested an oil change also. When technician remove valve cover, technician saw major gunk and oil sludge build up in the valve train. Technician completed the valve cover gasket and oil change and then test drove vehicle before vehicle was released to customer.

Next day, service writer calls customer to bring vehicle in to inspect for possible missing grommet as grommet was found on work bench. During conversation, customer complained about vehicle being noisy and advised service writer vehicle will be towed in. Vehicle arrived at shop and was not touched until technician was available. Technician inspected vehicle for missing grommet but did not find any. Grommet on bench was from a different vehicle. Service writer asked technician to remove valve cover gasket so service writer can take picture of gunk and sludge underneath valve cover. Service writer took pictures and valve cover was installed back on vehicle. Condition of vehicle was addressed on this day when customer came to pick up vehicle. Service writer showed customer pictures of gunk and advised customer noise is possibly coming from valvetrain but it's hard to pin point exactly without diagnostic. Vehicle was released after customer was advised.

Couple of days later, customer arrived at shop with a lady (possible girlfriend) who took pictures of the shop and license, and a gentlemen (we'll call him "[redacted]") who has a pen and paper in hand, threatening the service writer if vehicle does not get what [redacted] wants, [redacted] will launch a complaint to BAR and Revdex.com. Service writer answers [redacted]'s questions and advised that [redacted] will need to talk to shop manager/owner. [redacted], lady, and customer then left. The following week, [redacted], lady, and customer returns to shop complaining about a "check engine light". [redacted] demands shop to fix check engine light, perform engine flush, and add oil additives to quite engine noise down. Shop decline [redacted]'s request due to motor flush will break loose any gunk in the valvetrain and might cause more damage, rather, shop recommended engine tear down inspection. Technician retrieved MIL code and found code definition: "A" camshaft timing over-rded bank 1. Recommend [redacted] to perform diagnostic on vehicle, but advised customer if code is not related, there will be a charge.

Two to three days went by and customer, [redacted], and lady came back to the shop to meet with shop owner. [redacted] tells shop owner of his request and shop owner declines [redacted]'s request and [redacted] leaves the office. Before [redacted] leaves the parking lot, [redacted] takes pictures of all customer vehicles in the shop and in the parking lot. After [redacted] takes pictures, he gets in his car and speeds off in the parking lot.

Oil change and replacing valve cover gasket cannot cause noise or any other issues that customer complained about. Rather, oil change definitely can improve engine performance rather than hurt it. The vehicle had very dirty oil and sludge build up and this can cause the oil pump strainer to be plugged or clogged and oil not pumping well. Therefore, performing an oil change and a valve cover gasket replacement should improve vehicle, not make it worst.
