Review: I had been a patient of Dr. [redacted] for many years and received exemplary service. As he moves into retirement, he has sold his practice to Dr. [redacted]. Dr. [redacted] saw me in early January for what I believed to be a chipped tooth. It turned out to be a chipped filling. He smoothed out the rough area and had me make an appointment to come back and have it taken care of. When I came back to have the filling replaced, he informed me that I needed that filling replaced and the tooth next to it also needed a filling. (Something Dr. [redacted] had not mentioned during my previous visit.) Dr. [redacted] talked me into doing an onlay instead of a filling because it would be better for my situation, telling me that the cost of the onlay would be $400 for which my insurance would likely pay 50%. The filling for the other tooth would likely cost about $80, again insurance paying 50%.After they prepared my tooth, put on a temporary onlay, filled the other tooth, and took an impression for the lab to create my onlay, I made another appointment to return. At that time, I didnt have my FSA card with me and said I would have my wife call the next day to pay the expected balance of roughly $275. When my wife called, they charged her $348.50. I thought it was a simple mistake, so I called and asked why it was more. They told me the person who did the billing would have to call me back. After waiting a couple of days, I called again and was assured she would call me back. She never called.When I went in for my appointment to have the permanent onlay put in, Dr. [redacted] told me they had made a mistake. Not that they charged me too much, but they charged me far too little. He told me the cost of the onlay was $900 (not $400 as he had told me). He was going to do me a favor and only charge me somewhere around $650 (I don't remember the exact amount he quoted me). He said that my insurance didn't cover onlays, only fillings. Dr. [redacted] gave me the choice to keep my temporary onlay as a filling and he would refund the difference for the charge of a filling. Or I could pay the full price of $650 - meaning my expected cost went from about $280 to $730. I told him I would have to think about it and left the office. I called and spoke with Dr. [redacted] and he said that didn't sound fair at all. He would talk to Dr. [redacted], but he was only an employee and didn't have much say. Dr. [redacted] suggested I call on Tuesday and talk to the office manager, [redacted]. After speaking with [redacted], she told me that Dr. [redacted] agreed to put the onlay in for what I had already paid and I made an appointment to do so. Four days before my appointment, [redacted] called because there was a conflict with my appointment. She also told me that Dr. [redacted] had changed his mind and wanted me to pay in full for the onlay. He was willing to accept a payment plan, but that I would have to pay in full.Two times, Dr. [redacted] quoted me a price for work, then changed his mind. He clearly puts his profits above his patient's well-being. It is nearly two months later and I still have a temporary fix on my tooth because Dr. [redacted] misquoted his costs and refused (twice) to honor what he agreed to charge me.Desired Settlement: I would consider having the work done for the costs quoted, however, I would only allow Dr. [redacted] to complete the procedure. I will not allow Dr. [redacted] to perform any further work for me.
