Spent 2 hours on Monday trying to break free clog sewer line. Belt broke on their equipment. So said between 8 and 10 next day. was here by 9. Worked on sewer line for 2 hours. Did not get it fixed. Nice young man said his boss had called that they had spent enough time on this job. To leave go to other jobs and come back in morning. Charged me 225.00 and did not fix anything. Last time it cost 125.00 and actually got fixed. I told them not to come back. This is a restaurant I can't have a clog line for 3 days. I will never call roto rooter again.

Roto Rooter Service Response • Feb 14, 2020

On Monday February 10 we were called to open a sewer line at ***. The problem was in the front bathroom. Our men spent two hours trying to open the line and then we had a malfunction with the drive belt on our machine. It split in half so we left and scheduled to come back the next morning.

We returned and spent another two hours with no results. The men were told to move on as they were not able to open the line. We were going to try and find out where this line went and decide what the next move would be. The restaurant had a back set of bathrooms that were still working so we didn't feel that this situation was deemed an emergency by the restaurant.

Apparently the manager/owner of the restaurant was upset that we hadn't opened the line and were planning on leaving.

Our manager on duty had planned to come back and locate where this line went but we were told that we were not welcomed back.

We were willing to finish the project but we were not allowed to.

We would like to know what the final outcome was and if we could of done something different to solve the issue.

We had four hours into it and don't believe we can give this time away. We have had a good relationship with the restaurant through the years and could continue to service them.

Sewer lines can be hard to open when lines are laid years ago and additions are made to a building. Knowing where the line goes is important information to have.

We are sorry the situation ended this way but would like to know what was done to correct the problem.

I am rejecting this response because:With in an hour of call *** another local drain person. He had drain open and charged half of what Roto Rooter charged me.

Roto Rooter Service Response • Feb 25, 2020

We would like to see a copy of the invoice and what was done to correct the problem so we know what could have been done differently by us. We still came out and spent our time there and tried to work with the person in charge and she would not let us do that.

I am rejecting this response because:
I have already sent invoice in to our accountant. The reason they were told not to come back is because of two days of wasted time. Leaving without finishing the job. The young men came to me and said Their boss said the had wasted to much time on this job and to leave. I told them that if the could not get it done in two days their was no reason to come back. Was done an hour later with different company. I spend 7 days a week here and my time is valuable also. If they would have charged the 125.00 I have always paid before I would not have a problem. But to over charge me when they don't know what they are doing is not good business practice. I am done with this but believe me anyone that ask who we use for issues will be told that I would not use Roto Rooter again.

I have had roto rooter from Washington, IL out at my house 3 times in the past two weeks. Sewage keeps backing up into my home which is unsanitary, I have a 7 year old child who plays down in the basement where the sewage keeps backing up. This is a safety and hazardous thing for my 7 year when I keep being told that the issue shouldn't happen again. The first time I was told the drains were clogged by flushable whipes. I agreed we used them and haven't since. Two days later the sewage is backing up again. I called roto rooter, the city and Illinois American water to make sure everything on the outside was clear. Roto rooter unclogged everything again and said they see no issue. On Christmas Day the sewage backed up for a 3rd time, I called roto rooter and they came out and ran the snake through the drains again. I asked the technician if he had one of the pipe cameras to check and see if one of the pipes may be faulty. The technician stated they only have 1 technician who is qualified to use the camera and that was the technician that came out the 2nd time. I wake up this morning on 12/28/19 to sewage in my basement a 4th time!!!! I called roto rooter and I told them that they need someone out here with the camera and that I don't feel I should have to pay for this since they would now be visiting my home 4 times and is the issue is still not resolved. The owner stated that he would have to charge me $250 for the camera. I told the owner that it is absolute bs, that I should not be charged for the camera since his team has been out here 4 different times and I still have poop in my basement. The owner then told me that maybe I should just go somewhere else and have someone else look at it since I was becoming very upset and frustrated with how he acted like it was not a big deal. I work in the service industry as well, if a customer is not satisfied we either credit their account or we cover the charge to have our whole team determine the issue so the customer is satisfied.

In response tdo the complaint of ***#***

We have cleaned the sewer from the basement clean out and an outside clean out. The first trip she was charged $125.00. The next two trips there was no charge. Apparently our service men could not determine why she keeps having backups. The next step would be to inspect the pipe to see if there are any breaks or flaws. We would be happy to do this but it is not a part of the original call. We charge for the camera service. Sewer cameras are expensive to use and keep running. That is why we charge for this as a separate service.

A camera inspection would hopefully show why the line will not stay open. but will not completely solve the problem. Replacing the pipe or adding a clean out may be the solution, but with our inspecting the pipe we really don't know why she keeps having the problem.

We cannot operate a business, pay our men, and pay our bills without charging for the services we provide.

The service is guaranteed for 30 days. We can work with *** but not for free. We would be happy to clean the line again for no charge but the camera inspection would not be free as it is a completely different service.

Perhaps she should get prices from other companies before her comments about our company publicly.

On 8/14/18 had main line sewer line services by roto-rooter. The snake on the device broke and struck porcelain sink leaving a chip. I contacted the roto rooter office and they sent out Scott to fix. He applied a repair. The outcome of the repair is not satisfactory. I have been in contact (9/6/18) with the office about the sink still needing repair or replacement. No one has yet to call back. Would like a solution.

In reference to the complaint: We sent a man out there this morning and they are working with the customer to resolve the situation.

Not only could this company not guarantee their service, but also tracked their MUDDY BOOTS all over my home. They scratched my door and left ruts in my yard b/c they were unable to stay on the pavement of my driveway. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I would rate a 0 if I could.

On April 4, 2017 they came to my sons house to clean the sewer drain from house to main sewer drain. The 1st day they ran only out as far as their snake would go but they did not reach the main or end of line . They were paid for complete job of $125.00. That same night it was still backed and not flowing. Called back lady on phone said there would be no charge if for same thing. We called Sanitary dept. and they measured yard for a distance of 115 ft. Roto-Rooter only went out to 105 ft. the first day thinking they got the clog so they stopped and there was more clog that last 10 ft they did not check. so they came back added an extension to go out all the way this time to the main and got rest of clog and want to charge another $110. I told them lady said we would not have to pay if same problem I feel it was there fault they did not complete the job the first day being they did not measure and go out far enough to clean rest of clog

Roto Rooter Service Response

In response to claim number 12125975,

Our men cleaned the main sewer line from the basement cleanout and opened the line on April 4, 2017. Our machines carry 110 feet of cable on each reel. We removed tree roots from the line and thought everything was working.

We were called again on April 6, 2017 and the line was not working properly. The men went back and cleaned the line again. 110 feet did not reach the stoppage so they added another reel to go further. The cable encountered more tree roots at about 120 feet and was stuck in heavy tree roots. At that point, we could not move the cable forward or pull it back out. We then sent another man to assist and after some heavy pushing and pulling we did get the cable out and had wrapped up more heavy tree roots on the end of the cable.

The men were not aware of the distance between the house and the Peoria sanitary district main line. Even measuring from the house would not give an accurate length because it doesn't take into consideration of the depth and angle the line takes. Saying we should know how far to run the cable after the fact is ridiculous. It is easy to second guess after the fact.

We probably spent close to two hours on the second trip. We did open the line and feel the time and effort was worth another charge. Had we cleaned 110 feet and opened the line there would have been no charge.

The best solution to the customer's sewer problem would be to install a 6-inch riser on the line so the tile could be scraped out with a 6-inch cutter all the way to the main.

I would like to cut the charges in half and reduce it to $55.00. At least we would get something for our effort and the customer would know we are willing to work with them.

Customer Response

I am rejecting this response because: I still feel it should have been taken care on the 1st visit. They are trained specialists as per there profession. They should have been trained to know they were not out far enough. They should have been more professional and taken care of the problem before it got as far as the Revdex.com.
