I went to Rockford Dermatology on 10/31/13 for treatment for my psoriasis. We had setup an appointment for 11/21/13 to do a biopsy on the psoriasis. They told me that they would call my insurance (Coventry Health Care) to see if my insurance would cover the biopsy and then they would call and inform me if my insurance would cover the procedure. In the mean time, they prescribed me psoriasis medication that has worked fairly well.

I did not hear from them for an entire week. I decided I would call on 11/14/13 at 10:55am to see if they had contacted my insurance. I specifically remember asking the lady on the phone if they had contacted my insurance. She told me that my insurance said that they would NOT cover the procedure. I remember telling the lady that I would not go on with the procedure because of the cost without the insurance coverage and that I would call after the first of the year to setup another appointment in the near future.

A few weeks later I received a bill in the mail, which was $35.00 for the office visit (which was expected) and an additional $50.00 for a "NO SHOW PROCEDURE APPT". I called into the office on 2/13/14 and asked the lady on the phone about this additional charge. She proceeded to tell me that they had no records of talking to me or even verifying my insurance and it was recorded as a no show for the procedure. I proceeded to tell her that I was the one who called and spoke with someone at their offices about the insurance coverage and cancelling the procedure and she said that they show no records of the exchange on the phone on 11/14/13. I then reminded her and said "I specifically remember having the conversation with someone." She said their offices showed no records of any phone calls with me and that there is nothing she could do about the $50.00 "NO SHOW" charge. I told her I would be in touch with their offices and we would get it figured out.

On February 19, 2014 I stopped by the Rockford Dermatology offices after I got off work. I told the lady working the front desk that I would like to pay my bill ($35.00) and talk to someone about the $50.00 charge. She proceeded to tell me, again, that their computers show no records of me calling and cancelling the procedure and there was nothing she could do. I then, showed my telephone records that I had printed off from my Verizon cell phone account which had the calls outlined on my phone bill and she did not want to look it over. She gave me no options but to pay the $50.00. I paid the $35.00 "office visit new level 3" but told them I was still disputing the $50.00 NO SHOW charge.

In conclusion, I feel I should not have to pay the $50.00 charge because I can specifically remember talking to someone about cancelling the procedure due to my insurance not covering the biopsy. Just because they don't have records of me calling and cancelling, doesn't mean I did not call. I remember having a conversation with someone at that office about cancelling the procedure. It is not my problem that they do not have record of it. I have personal phone records showing I called them on the specific dates and I personally remember the conversation with whoever it was I was talking to at Rockford Dermatology.

I was very respectful during the whole process and never raised my voice once and neither did the persons I was dealing with on the phone. However, I feel I'm being labeled as a dishonest customer or a liar because they will not take my word and the proof of my cell phone records. I feel like I have been left with no other choices but to wait to hear from a collection agency about the $50.00 or file a complaint with the Revdex.com.
